BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 24 Lehigh secured three consecutive technical falls from 133-149 as the Mountain Hawks evened their season dual record with a hard fought 30-10 win over Drexel Friday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks won seven of ten bouts, scoring bonus points in four, to improve to 3-3 on the dual season. Drexel falls to 2-2.

“Drexel is a good team, and I wanted to see our guys come out and fight hard and I think they did that tonight,” said head coach Greg Strobel. “The guys went all out, and even in the matches we didn’t win everyone fought hard and that’s a good way to head into next weekend’s matches.”

The Dragons took four points from the opening bout with Steve Mytych earning an 11-1 major decision over Lehigh senior Patrick Berger. Freshman Seth Ciasulli then started the Lehigh run with a 19-2 tech fall over Billy Martin in 7:00. Ciasulli used two takedowns, two two-point near falls and a three point near fall to build an 11-1 lead after one period and never looked back.

Ciasulli’s older brother Matt, a senior, was equally impressive in his season dual debut, with a 15-0 tech fall over Greg Jensen in 5:21. Matt also built a big early lead and was able to pile up the points to wrap up the bout early in the final period. Sophomore Trevor Chinn completed the run, converting nine takedowns in a 22-7 tech fall over Kyle Bub.

Drexel earned three points back at 157, where Ryan Hluschak edged Dave Nakasone 4-3. Freshman Mike Galante extended the Lehigh lead to 18-7 with a 5-0 blanking of Billy Haydt at 165.

Nick Kozar edged Lehigh senior tri-captain David Helfrich 6-5 at 174, but Lehigh would win the final three bouts to secure the dual victory.

Freshman David Craig started the run with a win by fall over Justin Terhune at 184. Craig led the whole way and was headed for a win by major decision, before locking in a cradle and securing the pin with just three seconds left in the bout.

At 197, senior Matt Cassidy avenged a loss by major decision last year to Drexel’s Jon Oplinger with a 10-6 win. Senior Paul Weibel ended things on a high note for the Brown and White, overcoming an early four point move to defeat Chris Cowen 7-6.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the mats next weekend, when they will travel to State College to face No. 7 Penn State Friday night at 7:00 p.m. inside Rec Hall. The match will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as online at lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports.

On Tuesday, December 5, fans are invited to meet Lehigh head coach Greg Strobel and select student-athletes at the monthly Lehigh wrestling luncheon.  The event will take place at Starters Restaurant on Route 378 in Bethlehem and will begin at 12:00 p.m., running until 1:00.  Coach Strobel and members of the team in attendance will field questions from fans and alumni.  Cost of the all-you-can-eat buffet is $11.  The event will also be streamed on lehighsports.com later that afternoon, for those who cannot make it to Starters.
