Why Lehigh?: “I have been following Lehigh Wrestling since the early 1990's. Once I was given the opportunity to wrestle for the best team in the East and obtain a great education while doing it, I had to come to Lehigh.”
In 2005-06: Won EIWA Championship at 197 with 4-2 sudden victory win over Cornell’s Jerry Rinaldi… one of three Mountain Hawks to win at least 25 matches… saved his best for the big crowds, as evidenced by 6-0 record inside Stabler Arena with wins over eventual All-American Ryan Bader of Arizona State, NCAA runner-up Phil Davis of Penn State and Rinaldi… went 0-2 in first NCAA appearance… bumped up to heavyweight for two regular season duals, winning one bout and losing one… finished second at Slippery Rock Open wrestling at 184, then won Penn State Open the following month at 197… went 3-2 at the Southern Scuffle, falling one win short of placement…placed 5th at University Freestyle Nationals in 211 lb. weight class going 6-2 with two wins by fall.
In 2004-05: With Jon Trenge returning to action at 197, moved down to 184 where he posted a record of 6-9 competing solely in duals…Suffered season ending leg injury in overtime loss to Virginia’s Kyle Narkiewicz in February dual… pinned second cousin Eric Cassidy in dual win over Pittsburgh…Represented wrestling team in the Lehigh Superstars Challenge, which aired on weekly Lehigh Sports Magazine Television show.
In 2003-04: Taking over for Jon Trenge, Cassidy shot out to a 10-1 record in his freshman campaign…ranked in Intermat’s top 20 for most of the season…had a big WBF against Oklahoma State’s Rusty Blackmon in the dual at Stillwater…finished season with a 6th place finish at EIWAs in a very tough weight class
In 2002-03: Deferred eligibility…10-7 in open tournaments
In Secondary School: Career mark of 109-23…First in the state his senior year at 189 with a 34-1 mark, fourth in the state at 171 as a junior, going 34-2…was rated among the top twelve seniors in Pennsylvania by InterMat Wrestling and among the top 12 nationally at 189...Nephew of two time All-American Steve Cassidy, Lehigh captain in '94 and '95 and EIWA Champion…Cassidy was also a high school standout in football and baseball.
