PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Luke Stanich and graduate student Nathan Taylor won titles to lead the Lehigh men's wrestling team Sunday at the season-opening Princeton Open at Jadwin Gym. Both Mountain Hawks went 5-0 Sunday, with Stanich winning all five matches by technical fall.
The Mountain Hawks had 20 entrants at the Princeton Open and had four total finalists and nine top-six place winners.
Stanich posted five technical fall victories, highlighted by a 20-3 technical fall over top 10-ranked Jack Consiglio of Stanford in the finals.
Taylor's tournament began with a pair of technical falls and concluded with a 5-3 win over Army's Lucas Stoddard in the finals. A first period takedown and second period escape helped Taylor hold on after Stoddard scored a takedown with just over a minute to go in the match.
Seniors Rylan Rogers (184) and Caden Rogers (197) both made the finals but came up short in finals bouts. Rylan Rogers won his first three bouts before running into Stanford's Slava Shahbazyan. Rogers trailed early in the third period when he secured a takedown to go up 5-3, only to be reversed for six points. Caden Rogers won his first three bouts before running into top seed Angelo Posada of Stanford in the finals.
Graduate student Jayden Scott (149) and deferred first-year Brady Collins (174) claimed third place finishes after semifinal losses. Scott went 4-1 to lead five Mountain Hawks who competed at 149. Senior Kelvin Griffin and sophomore Seamus Mack battled though the consolations to make the fifth place match but no bout was contested between the Lehigh wrestlers.
Collins was the lone place winner of four entrants at 174.
Four true first-years made their Lehigh debuts: Mason Wagner (165), Tavio Hoose (184), Cael Weidemoyer (197) and Dean Bechtold (285). Bechtold claimed sixth place at 285.
The Mountain Hawks will open the dual season Friday night when they host No. 5 Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. at Stabler Arena. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-758-4263 during business hours.
The 2026-27 Lehigh men's wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
