Traditions & History - Spirit
The Lehigh Student Spirit Committee is comprised of the following group leaders: The Marching 97 (Lehigh's Marching Band), The Lehigh Pep Band, The Lehigh Dance Team, The Lehigh Cheer Team, and the students who perform as Clutch, Lehigh’s mascot. This group meets weekly with a focus on achieving goals of creating the best possible atmosphere and student attendance at Lehigh sporting events through their performances and teamwork, as well as engaging the student body in cheers and promotions. This committee is advised by Rich Haas, Assistant AD / Director of Sales and Marketing, and Ryan Dilts, Assistant Director of Sales and Marketing
Marching 97Â
The 97 continues its tradition of excellence complete with its unique brand of march-marchery, sing-singery, leg-liftery. Its distinctive marching style and psyche have caused it to be dubbed "The Finest Band East of All Points West."
A completely student-run organization, all field drills, music preparation, and administrative arrangements are the responsibility of its members. Lehigh Cheer TeamÂ
The Lehigh Cheer Team is a co-ed squad that holds spring tryouts for aspiring members with previous experience. They enthusiastically support men's football, men's basketball, and women's basketball, bringing spirit to each game. Additionally, they cheer at various campus events, including RALLY and Eco-Flame. Clutch's Kettle
Clutch's Kettle is the official student section spirit group of Lehigh Athletics. A kettle is a group of hawks soaring together as one. This group is no different. Lehigh Dance TeamÂ
The Lehigh Dance Team performs at many home basketball games at Stabler Arena, as well as select other events, such as football games, wrestling matches, and the First-Year Student Rally. This completely student-run and very popular squad specializes in innovative routines to the latest music at half-time and at timeouts to keep the crowd engaged. Pep Band
The Lehigh University Pep Band strives to make home games for Lehigh Men's and Women's basketball more exciting by adding a musical element to the atmosphere. The Pep Band has also made appearances at Lehigh Wrestling, Soccer and Lacrosse matches. Past road trips include NCAA Tournament trips to Newark, NJ (2009), Oklahoma City, OK (2011) and Greensboro, NC (2012). To learn more about the Lehigh University Pep Band contact Pep Band President at lupepband@gmail.com or Tweet @LehighPepBand
