CLEVELAND – Graduate student Sheldon Seymour and sophomore Luke Stanich advanced to Friday's championship quarterfinals, while all six of Lehigh's NCAA Championships qualifiers advanced to day two, following Thursday night's action at Rocket Arena,

Lehigh wrestlers went 2-3 in the championship round of 16, while senior Nathan Taylor posted a major decision to stay alive in the consolations at 285.

The Mountain Hawks finished day one with 13 points, good for 12th place.

Seymour punched his ticket to the semifinals for the second straight year with a 5-4 decision over Iowa State's Stevo Poulin at 125. A second period reversal opened the scoring, with Seymour securing a go-ahead takedown midway through the final period before holding on late. Seymour will next face No. 5 seed Troy Spratley of Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals.

Stanich will make his first career quarterfinal appearance. He won an 11-2 major decision over Oklahoma's Tyler Wells at 141. Stanich scored takedowns in the second and third periods and added a second period escape plus four stalling points. He will face Anthony Echemendia of Iowa State in a 4-vs.-5 matchup in Friday's quarterfinal round.

Sophomore Logan Rozynski (157), senior Max Brignola (165) and junior Rylan Rogers (184) dropped down to the consolations after losses Thursday evening.

Rozynski dropped a 10-1 major decision to Illinois' Kannon Webster. Brignola was in a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair with NC State's Will Denny. Both Brignola and Denny scored two takedowns in regulation, with a Brignola escape in the third sending the match to sudden victory tied 9-9. It was Denny who got in on a shot early in sudden victory, securing the takedown for the 12-9 win.

Rogers was sent to the consolations following a 13-4 major decision loss to top seeded Rocco Welsh of Penn State.

Taylor stayed alive in the consolations with bonus points to boot, as he won a 15-7 major decision over Trevor Tinker of Cal Poly. Taylor led 11-1 after one behind two takedowns, a stalling point and a four-point near fall. After getting taken down in the second, Taylor reversed and rode out. Taylor gave up a second takedown in the third period, but a late escape plus riding time gave him the margin needed for the major decision.

Penn State takes a 13.5 lead over Nebraska into day two of competition. The Nittany Lions have eight quarterfinalists.

The NCAA Championships continue Friday at noon with session three, featuring the championship quarterfinals at two rounds of consolations. Session three will be televised on ESPNU with streaming coverage of every mat available on ESPN+.
