CLEVELAND – Sophomore Luke Stanich advanced to Friday night's semifinals and three other Mountain Hawks will wrestle for All-America honors Friday night following Session 3 of the NCAA Championships Friday afternoon at Rocket Arena.
Â
Stanich defeated Iowa State's Anthony Echemendia 6-4 in the quarterfinals at 141 to secure his second career All-America medal. He gave up the first takedown in the opening period and trailed 3-1 after one. Trailing 4-2 early in the third period, Stanich took Echemendia down and rode out the final 1:28 to earn the victory. Stanich will face No. 1 seed and two-time defending NCAA Champion Jesse Mendez of Ohio State in the semifinals.
Â
Wrestling in the fourth round consolations for a spot on the podium Friday evening will be graduate student Sheldon Seymour (125), senior Max Brignola (165) and junior Rylan Rogers (184).
Â
Seymour dropped his quarterfinal bout to Oklahoma State's Troy Spratley 8-2, giving up a first period takedown and one late after a desperation attempt as he suffered his first loss of the season. He will now face Stanford's Nico Provo, looking for his second career All-America honor.
Â
Brignola and Rogers both went 2-0 Friday afternoon to reach the blood round. In a third consecutive overtime bout, Brignola gave up a leg but scrambled back to score a neutral danger takedown to defeat Penn's Sean Seefeldt 8-5 in sudden victory. He then made a first period takedown and third period reversal stand in a 6-4 win over Drexel's Cody Walsh. Brignola will wrestle Arizona State's Nicco Ruiz for a spot on the podium. The two have split two previous meetings this season.
Â
Rogers won both of his bouts Friday afternoon with some third period magic. He trailed North Carolina's Jake Dailey 4-2 in the third before securing a takedown and four point near fall to win 9-4. Then in his rubber match with Chris Moore from Illinois, Rogers broke a 1-1 tie with a late third period takedown and rode out two win 4-1. Rogers will face Eddie Neitenbach from Wyoming in the blood round.
Â
Two Mountain Hawks had their seasons end Friday afternoon in the second round of consolations.
Â
Sophomore Logan Rozynski (157) fell 4-1 to Little Rock's Javion Jones, who scored a late first period takedown. Rozynski's sophomore campaign ends at 14-5.
Â

Â
Lehigh finished Session 3 with 22 points, good for 12th place.
