3/21/2025 11:26:00 PM | Men's Wrestling
PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh's two All-Americans fell short in their bids to make the national finals while two others just missed All-America status as the Mountain Hawks competed at session four of the NCAA Championships Friday night at Wells Fargo Center.
Â
Junior Sheldon Seymour (125) and graduate student Owen Trephan (285) were both defeated in semifinal action and will next wrestle in the consolation semifinals on Saturday.
Â
Seniors Malyke Hines (149) and Michael Beard were beaten in fourth round consolations, in matches where a victory would have secured All-America honors.
Â
Lehigh finished the session stuck on 26 points with the Mountain Hawks sitting in 15th place.
Â
Seymour dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 4 seed Vincent Robinson, who secured an escape and takedown in the second period to earn the victory. Next up for Seymour will be No. 2 seed Matt Ramos of Purdue in the consolation semifinals.
Â
Trephan capped Lehigh's Friday night session with a 13-5 loss to Minnesota's Gable Steveson, a two-time NCAA champion and 2020 Olympic gold medalist. Steveson scored two first period takedowns and added a third in the final period to hand Trephan his first loss of the season. Trephan will face his former NC State teammate, Isaac Trumble, in the consolation semifinals.
Â
In his fifth NCAA Tournament, Hines reached the blood round for the second time, but dropped his fourth round consolation by fall to Ethan Stiles of Oregon State. Stiles locked up a cradle for a takedown and turned Hines to his back, securing the fall at 2:11.
Â
An EIWA champion in 2021, Hines finishes his fifth year at 17-9 and caps his Lehigh career with a 72-43 record.
Â
Beard scored the first takedown in his fourth round consolation bout with Wyoming's Joseph Novak, but the Cowboy took over after that. Novak reversed Beard after the initial takedown and scored a takedown of his own in each period to claim a 13-4 major decision.
Â
A two-time All-American and two-time EIWA champion, Beard went 22-3 in 2024-25 and finishes his career with a 91-20 record.

Lehigh's two All-Americans will wrestle in the medal round Saturday at 11 a.m. The medal round will be televised on ESPNU with streaming coverage of every mat on ESPN+.
