
Lehigh to make home debut at Legacy Park vs. defending champ Bucknell this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh baseball team will play its first home games of the 2015 season this weekend when the Mountain Hawks host defending Patriot League champion Bucknell for a four-game series at Legacy Park. Doubleheaders beginning at 12 p.m. will take place Saturday and Sunday. Free video of all four games will be available on the Patriot League Network.
The baseball field underwent renovations over the offseason that feature a field with with a synthetic infield and natural grass outfield and larger and enhanced dugouts, bullpens and batting cages. The backstop wire screens have been replaced with a modern cable and netting system. Modern stands and a functional press box have been added. With great appreciation and respect for the long history and proud identity of Lehigh's baseball alumni and others who have been associated with the program, Lehigh University and the Lehigh Athletics Department proudly bestow Legacy Park as the name of the baseball complex.
This weekend's series will be the second Patriot League series of the season. Lehigh went 1-3 against Army in the opening league weekend. Senior Justin Pacchioli hit .538 (7-for-13) over the weekend, while classmates Connor Faust (.455) and John Elson (.429) also put together strong offensive performances. Sophomore David Young earned the win on the mound in Lehigh's 5-2 victory on Sunday.
Junior Mike Garzillo (.393) and Pacchioli (.392) hold the second and third best batting averages in the Patriot League. Pacchioli leads the league in stolen bases (16) and on-base percentage (.543). Garzillo has tallied a team-best 23 RBI so far this season, while sophomore Jacen Nalesnik (14), Faust (11) and Elson (10) follow.
Senior J.R. Edwards is projected to get the starting nod in game one this weekend. Edwards holds a team-best 2.14 ERA. He threw 3.2 innings last Saturday at Army and surrendered four runs, only one of which was earned, and five hits. Senior Nick Macaione will toe the rubber in game two after tossing a strong five innings against the Black Knights, allowing two runs while striking out five. Lehigh's Sunday starting pitchers are to be determined.
Bucknell will be searching for its first league wins of the season after being swept at Navy last weekend. The Mids earned 4-2 and 7-1 decisions on Saturday before beating the Bison in a pair of one-run, extra-inning (2-1, 6-5) games Sunday. Bucknell is 14-11 overall and the Bison hold a team batting average of .265 and squad ERA of 3.67. Joe Ogren leads Bucknell with a .372 batting average and 22 RBI. Mike Korchak (.343) and Anthony Ginerelli (.308) are also hitting above .300, while Brett Smith has scored a team-best 23 runs.
Bryson Hough gets the start in game one for the Bison. Hough tossed his second complete game of the season last Saturday against Navy, giving up four runs on eight hits while fanning six. Lefty Xavier Hammond will start game two after surrending six runs in five innings against the Mids, while Andrew Andreychik will toe the rubber for game three. Andreychik spun a gem at Navy last Sunday, keeping the Mids off the board until the bottom of the tenth inning. He struck out 12 batters in 9.2 innings. Bucknell's game four starter is TBD.
The Mountain Hawks and Bison will be meeting for the first time since last year's Patriot League Championship series when Bucknell captured 5-4 and 7-2 wins to earn the league title. The Bison won three of last season's four regular-season games. Lehigh was able to salvage a 4-2 win in the final game of the series at Depew Field.
Following this weekend's series, Lehigh will face Saint Peter's in a pair of midweek games Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Holy Cross to resume league play next weekend.
