Men's Tennis begins season on Sunday down in Baltimore

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After having its season cut short almost a full year ago, the Lehigh men's tennis team will return to the courts on Sunday for its season opener. The Mountain Hawks will head on down to Baltimore and compete against Loyola (Md.). The Mountain Hawks' scheduled opener last weekend against Lafayette was canceled.
Lehigh is coming off a season in which they ended up 5-5. The Mountain Hawks started the early year with dominant wins against Saint Francis, Siena and Duquesne, while then dropping wire-to-wire matches against Drexel and Villanova. Right before the season was cut short do to COVID-19, Lehigh traveled down to Orlando and picked up solid wins against Bentley and Carnegie Melon.
This year's team returns a plethora of talent from a season ago, as Lehigh returns four of its top five players in Zack Elliott, Harry Wang, Gary Fishkin and Jacob Edelchik. The Mountain Hawks will also look for jumps from sophomores Matt Kleiman and Jeremy Learner. Elliott, Wang and Fishkin all recorded a 6-3 mark at the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots in singles action. Jacob Edelchik and Jeremy Learner tallied five wins in singles a season ago, while Matt Kleiman registered four.
The top four Lehigh players also consist of a strong duo in doubles. The pairs of Elliott/Wang and Edelchik/Fishkin each totaled six wins at the top two spots in doubles. Learner and Steven Nazaroff went 3-1 at the No. 3 spot.
Coach Wouter Hendrix brought in two freshmen to this year's team in David Missry and Jordan Paul. Missry comes to Bethlehem from Taylor Allerdice high school in Pittsburgh, while Paul comes from Marlboro high school in New Jersey.
The Greyhounds have yet to compete this season, however they face Chestnut Hill in their first match of the season on Saturday before hosting the Mountain Hawks.
