Men's Tennis opens season with a strong 7-0 win at Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lehigh men's tennis team opened its 2021 season with a bang, a complete effort 7-0 win over the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds. Today's win marks the third straight year in which the Mountain Hawks have started the season with a win.
At the conclusion of the day, the Mountain Hawks won all nine matches on the day. At the No. 1 spot, leader Zack Elliott showed maturity and domination, pounding his opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Through the No. 2-4 matches, Lehigh won all in three-setters. At the No, 2 spot, senior Harry Wang took the first set, dropped the second and then prevailed in the third set. The captain won, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Matt Kleiman and Jacob Edelchik both showed adversity this afternoon, as both men dropped the first set and rebounded by winning the next two to claim the win. Kleiman took the win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Edelchik came away with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win.
At the five and six spot, Jeremy Learner and Jordan Paul both won in straight sets. Learner won 6-2, 6-2, while Paul picked up his first-career college win, 6-6, 7-5.
In doubles, Lehigh won the doubles point by winning all three matches by a 6-4 score. Elliot and Wang were the top team for Lehigh, Edelchik and Fishkin were the No. 2 team and then Learner and Steven Nazaroff were the No, 3 team.
Up next, Lehigh has scheduled a home contest next Saturday against the Villanova Wildcats. The Mountain Hawks and the Wildcats will compete inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
