BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three matches over four days in Charleston, S.C., await the Lehigh men's tennis team over spring break. The Mountain Hawks will leave the friendly confines of the Lewis Tennis Center for the first time and will play outdoors for the first time this season (weather permitting) with three matches beginning Sunday.
The trip begins with a visit to the Citadel for a 3 p.m. match on Sunday. On Monday, Lehigh will face the College of Charleston at 4 p.m. After a day off Tuesday, Lehigh will conclude its trip with a neutral site match against Radford at 4:30 p.m.
Lehigh is riding a five-match win streak into spring break. The Mountain Hawks had a match with Hofstra canceled last Saturday then came back to edge La Salle 4-3 in a thriller on Sunday to improve to 5-2 on the season. Lehigh dropped the doubles point and trailed 3-1 before winning the final three singles matches, with sophomore Harry Wang grinding out a three-set win at No. 1, junior Jack Martin-Dyer posting a straight-set win at No. 4 and senior Chris Auteri clinching the comeback win in straight sets at No. 5.
Martin-Dyer leads Lehigh win singles wins as he now sits at 5-1. Wang and freshman Zack Elliott have been the top doubles team, going 5-2 at the top flight.
Lehigh's first spring break opponent, the Citadel, has already played 20 matches this spring. The Bulldogs are 6-14 entering a Thursday matchup with Toledo and will host Methodist and Richmond before hosting the Mountain Hawks.
College of Charleston is 8-2 on the season and is coming off a 5-2 loss to James Madison on Tuesday. The Cougars will host North Carolina A&T and UNC Asheville prior to Lehigh's visit.
Radford owns a strong 6-1 record and has not competed since blanking Mount St. Mary's 7-0 on Feb. 26. The Highlanders will play Charleston on Tuesday before their Wednesday showdown with Lehigh.
Following the South Carolina trip, Lehigh will open Patriot League play with two matches in Maryland next weekend. The Mountain Hawks will play at Loyola on Saturday, March 16 at noon and at Navy the following day at 1 p.m.
