
Hammerschmidt leads Lehigh at Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Lehigh men's golf team closed out its Spring Break trip to Florida by wrapping up action at the Mission Inn Spectacular Sunday at the El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort. The Mountain Hawks shot 308 on Sunday, matching their afternoon total for Saturday and finishing the 54-hole tournament at 929 (313-308-308).
Senior Lee Hammerschmidt led the way for the Mountain Hawks, with one of the top performances of his Lehigh career. Hammerschmidt shook off an opening round 81 to finish at 228 (81-73-74) and tie for 62nd place. On Sunday, Hammerschmidt carded three birdies as he was just three over par over his final 36 holes.
Junior Owen Quinn shot three rounds in the 70s and finished one stroke behind Hammerschmidt, tying for 66th place at 229 (75-78-76). Quinn made 14 pars and four bogeys in his final round 76.
Freshman Michael Tanaka matched Quinn with three rounds in the 70s and finished in a tie for 85th place at 225 (77-79-79).
Junior Ryan Kelly made three birdies in his final round, shooting 81 on Sunday and finishing at 239 (80-78-81) and tying for 85th place.
Senior Max Redetzke finished with his best round of the tournament, shooting 79 Sunday and tying for 101st place at 247 (86-82-79).
Lehigh also had senior Eamon Marone competing as an individual. Marone had his best round of the weekend (78) on Sunday but finished in 108th place at 261 (91-92-78).
Kansas State rolled to the team title with a final score of 848 (283-285-280), topping second place UCF by 13 strokes. Illinois State finished third.
K-State also had the individual medalist, Jeremy Gandon at eight under par 208 (70-67-71). He posted a two shot victory over three players.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action when they play in Lafayette's Invitational March 31-April 1 at the Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa.
