BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team will play its first true Patriot League road series this weekend when the Mountain Hawks travel to league-leading Holy Cross. A doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, while Sunday's twinbill is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Free video of Sunday's games will be available on the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh carries a 4-4 Patriot League record into this weekend's series and is currently tied for third place in the league standings with Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks dropped three of four to Army on the first weekend of Patriot League play, but rebounded with a 3-1 series win over Bucknell last weekend at Legacy Park. The Crusaders hold a two-game lead at the top of the league standings with a 7-1 record. Holy Cross swept a road series at Lafayette before taking three of four from Navy last weekend.

The Mountain Hawks have won four of their last five games, but are coming off a 16-9 midweek loss to Saint Peter's Wednesday. Lehigh claimed an 11-5 road win against the Peacocks Tuesday after earning victories in the final three games of the Bucknell series. The Bison claimed the first game 4-2 in extra innings, but the Mountain Hawks earned a 6-2 win in game two before sweeping Sunday's doubleheader with a pair of walk-off wins after grabbing a 3-2, extra-inning victory in the opener and a 7-6 win in the nightcap. Senior Patrick Walshe led Lehigh offensively in the series with a 6-for-11 showing at the plate, while senior Tim McKay and junior Mike Garzillo both hit .500 over the weekend. Senior pitchers Nick Macaione, Nick Stephens and Jordan Smith each picked up wins on the mound.

Lehigh is hitting .253 as a team, led by Garzillo's .400 batting average that ranks second in the league and is tied for 21st in Division I. Garzillo's .648 slugging percentage leads the Patriot League, while his 30 RBI are tied for the league lead. Senior Justin Pacchioli follows with a .364 batting average and a league-best .512 on-base percentage that also ranks 13th in the nation. Pacchioli leads the team with 16 stolen bases and 28 runs scored and the leadoff hitter has reached base safely in 40 consecutive games dating back to last season. Walshe (.321) and McKay (.271) hold the next highest batting averages on the Mountain Hawk squad.

Senior J.R. Edwards is projected to get the starting nod in game one vs. the Crusaders this weekend, while Macaione will toe the rubber for game two. Both Mountain Hawks hold 2.39 ERAs. Edwards surrendered two runs on five hits in 5.1 innings in game one against Bucknell last weekend. Macaione fired a complete game to earn the win in game two last Saturday after giving up just two runs on six hits in a full nine innings of work. Lehigh's Sunday starting pitchers are to be determined.

The Crusaders ride a four-game win streak into this weekend's series and are 4-1 at home this season. Holy Cross topped Yale 10-1 in midweek action Tuesday after taking the final three games from Navy last weekend. The Mids earned a 1-0 extra-inning win in the series opener, but Holy Cross bounced back with a 3-2 victory in Saturday's nightcap before sweeping Sunday's doubleheader (9-1, 5-1).

Holy Cross is led offensively by freshman Cam O'Neill who is batting .360 this season. Jack St. Clair (.322) and Anthony Critelli (.312) are also hitting over .300 and the Crusaders average a .272 mark as a team. Critelli leads the team with 23 RBI while Evan Ocello has scored a team-best 27 runs.

All four of Holy Cross' projected starting pitchers for this weekend's series hold season ERAs under 4.00 and the Crusaders have a team ERA of just 0.68 in their eight league games. Donny Murray will get the start in game one and is 1-2 this season with a 3.64 ERA.  Ben White, the game two starter, is 2-0 in league games with a 0.00 ERA and 18 punchouts.  Justin Finan gets the start in game three while Brendan King will handle game four. Both Finan and King are 2-0 in league play.

Lehigh swept last season's series against Holy Cross. Pitching was strong throughout the entire series and the Mountain Hawk bats broke out in Sunday's games as Lehigh outscored the Crusaders 25-8 over the four-game set. Lehigh earned 1-0 and 3-0 wins in Saturday's doubleheader, marking the first time in program history that Lehigh shut out a Patriot League opponent twice in one day and the first time the Mountain Hawks blanked any team twice in a single day since 1976. The offense heated up on Sunday as Lehigh picked up 6-5 and 15-3 wins over the Crusaders and eight separate Mountain Hawks recorded RBI throughout the day.

Following this weekend's series, Lehigh will return to Legacy Park for a six-game homestand that begins with a 3 p.m. Tuesday game vs. Delaware.
