BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball wrapped up the 2026 campaign at home for a doubleheader against the Bucknell Bison on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks dropped a seven-inning game one 2-1 to the Bison before winning 10-4 in game two to close out the season.
Brady Hoar picked up the win for Bucknell (24-22, 17-9 PL) in game one after allowing no earned runs with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Hadley Maxwell earned his tenth save of the season for the Bison while reliever Cole Kochanowicz was credited with the loss after conceding the lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The Mountain Hawks scored the opening run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI fielder's choice from Edwin Betances. Solid pitching on the mound from starter Sam Fairhurst allowed Lehigh to hold a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. However, Garrett Mathias tied the game for Bucknell on a sac-fly before Ty Lagoni scampered home on a wild pitch to take the lead. Despite getting two baserunners aboard in the bottom of the seventh, Maxwell recorded the outs necessary to secure the win for Bucknell.
Robby Grasso went 2-3 in game one while Robbie Carvelli, Aidan Quinn, and Trystan Crawford also tallied hits for the Mountain Hawks.
Starting pitcher Jake Mulvehill earned his fifth win of the season in game two after striking out five while allowing no earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. Bucknell starter Tyler Seidman picked up the loss after allowing four earned runs in 5.0 innings.
Bucknell struck first in game two, scoring on an error in the top of the first to lead 1-0. Lehigh responded in the bottom of the frame on a double steal to tie the contest 1-1. The Mountain Hawks then took the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout from Quinn.
Lehigh and Bucknell traded scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth innings before a massive bottom of the sixth allowed the Mountain Hawks to extend their lead to nine. Four runs came home in a row with a bases loaded hit by pitch, two bases loaded walks, and another bases loaded hit by pitch. Quinn tallied another RBI on a fielder's choice before a two-RBI single from Owen Walewander ballooned Lehigh's lead to 10-1 at the conclusion of the sixth.
The Bison attempted a rally in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs to cut their deficit to six. However, Ralph Gariano entered the game for Lehigh to record the final two outs and secure the win.
Walewander had a big day in his final collegiate game, batting 3-4 with two RBIs, a run scored, and a double. Ian Wirtz also went 3-4 on the afternoon while Carvelli, Crawford, Betances, and Silvio Giardina provided Lehigh's other hits in game two. Brandon Coughlin and Ryan Holman also appeared on the mound for the Mountain Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks now set their sights on the offseason.
