BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the season last Sunday by blanking Mount St. Mary's 7-0 Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Despite missing two starters, the Mountain Hawks claimed the top two doubles flights and swept through six singles matches, winning two of the six in third set ten point tiebreaks.

With the win Lehigh improves to 5-1 on the season. The Mountain Hawks have now won 18 straight home matches.

Lehigh played without senior Mark Goldberg and freshman Tyler Hansen. With Goldberg out, head coach Wouter Hendrix moved his No. 2 doubles team of junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman into the No. 1 spot and they responded with a 6-2 win over Peter Salomon and Louis Tonon to clinch the doubles point. Junior Mitchell Petersen teamed with senior Timur Chernykh to defeat Mike Zabetakis and Austin Blake 6-2 at the No. 2 flight. The match at No. 3 doubles did not finish with sophomore Ricardo Prince and freshman Graham Lehman trailing 5-3.

Petersen extended Lehigh's lead to 2-0 with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Salomon at No. 2 singles. Kochman filled in for Hansen at No. 4 singles and defeated Zabetakis 6-0, 6-2. Gilman delivered the clinching point for the Mountain Hawks with a 6-5, 6-4 win over Blake at the top singles flight.

Chernykh moved up to the No. 3 singles flight and outlasted Mateo DeSomocurcio 10-8 in a third set super tiebreak after winning the first set and losing the second.

Freshman Ethan Bogard put Lehigh up 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tonon at the No. 6 flight. Looking for the singles sweep, freshman Jason Sutker dropped his first set 6-0 to Darren Mast at No. 5 singles but battled back to win the second set 6-3 and prevailed 13-11 in a back-and-forth super tiebreak to close out the match.

Lehigh will welcome two tough opponents to the Lewis Tennis Center next weekend as the Mountain Hawks will host Stony Brook  on Saturday and Delaware on Sunday. Both matches are set for 2 p.m. starts.
