
Lehigh suffers first home loss since 2012, 4-3 to Stony Brook

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh saw its 18 match home winning streak come to an end Saturday as visiting Stony Brook rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Mountain Hawks inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won the doubles point but could only muster wins in two of the six singles matches.
The loss, Lehigh's first at home since a 5-2 setback to Marist on April 13, 2012, dropped the Mountain Hawks to 5-2 on the season.
Things started well as Lehigh claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. Junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman won 8-3 over Marcelo Locatelli and Jose Morales at the top flight, while at No. 3 doubles, junior Mitchell Petersen teamed with freshman Ethan Bogard to beat Tyler Hoffman and Brandon Stone 8-2.
Stony Brook's comeback began with two straight set wins in the top four singles flights. Raphael Termat defeated Petersen 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 flight and Jose Morales downed senior Timur Chernykh 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 4 singles.
In the top flight, Gilman fell in three sets to Felisa but Kochman grabbed a point back with a three set win over Locatelli at No. 3 singles.
The Seawolves clinched the match at No. 5 singles as Hoffman defeated freshman Tyler Hansen 7-5, 6-1. Bogard earned Lehigh's third point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stone at the sixth flight.
The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound on Sunday when they host Delaware at 2 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
