Mountain Hawks Rally To Stun Navy 4-3 In Patriot League Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis returned to the court on Saturday morning after an extended break following the team's spring break trip to North Carolina. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Navy Midshipmen in a 4-3 thriller to start Patriot League season, marking Lehigh's first victory over Navy since 2013.
Lehigh (7-7, 1-0 PL) struck first against Navy (17-17, 1-1 PL) with two doubles wins to take the opening point of the match. Sean Jaeger and Alex Van Lumich defeated Charlie Spencer and Herrick Legaspi 6-2 at number one while Wyeth Anzilotti and Henry Stoller's 6-4 victory at number two secured the doubles point for the Mountain Hawks.
The Midshipmen claimed the first win of singles competition by way of a 6-1, 6-1 win from Spencer at number three. The Mountain Hawks responded with a two-set win from Jaeger at number two before Navy's Jeffrey Etterbeek evened the score 2-2 with a two-setter at number four. Navy came within one point of winning the dual after Van Lumich retired during the third set at number one.
Needing to win both of their final two singles matches, Henry Stoller got the comeback effort started for Lehigh with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jason Kim at number six. Aleksandar Daskalovic won his first set 7-5 before losing 6-3 in the second set, setting up a winner-takes-all third set. Daskalovic took care of business 6-1 and kicked off Patriot League play for the Mountain Hawks with a win.
The Mountain Hawks return to action at home to take on Colgate on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
