Strong showing for LU crews at Occoquan Sprints

LORTON, Va. – Lehigh sent four crews to the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday and the men’s varsity 8 took first in the grand final with a time of 5:53 as the Mountain Hawks crossed in front of Delaware, Washington College, George Mason, Loyola, and Mary Washington. On the women’s side, the varsity 8 placed third in the petite final as the Brown and White finished in 6:40.45, which was in front of Mary Washington, Franklin and Marshall and William & Mary.
In the men’s V8 opening heat Lehigh crossed in 6:07.3 which placed the Mountain Hawks first as they bested George Mason, Washington College, and William & Mary. The women’s V8 finished in fourth in their opening heat after crossing in a time of 7:02.67.
Lehigh also entered a men’s pair, which finished in third place in its race with a time of 7:44.2 and a men’s four, which took second place after crossing in 6:32.6. The pair defeated George Mason, Washington College and St. John’s College and the four bested entries from Loyola, VCU, Washington College, Delaware, Franklin and Marshall, UNC Wilmington, Catholic University and William & Mary among others.
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, April 3 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to compete at the 2010 Murphy Cup.
