LAKE NOCKAMIXON, Pa. – Lehigh rowing welcomed Fairfield, Iona and Loyola to Lake Nockamixon for a tri-meet on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks picked up wins in 12 of 14 events across both the men's and women's teams.

"Though the conditions were challenging, we stayed really aggressive and persistent," said sophomore Lydia Sheeser. "Even with a relatively new lineup, we found new speed that we haven't yet in practice. Today's race was a really encouraging start to our spring season."

Lehigh first competed against Fairfield and Iona in plethora of races. In the men's first varsity eight+ race, Lehigh came away victorious with a first-place finish in 7:12.82. Lehigh's second varsity eight+ also finished in first, besting Fairfield 7:14.87 to 7:18.97. In the first varsity four+, the Lehigh men won with a finish in 7:46.37. Lehigh's men also claimed victory in the second varsity four+ in 8:26.71.

"The race at Lake Nockamixon went very well, especially for my first 2k on the water," said first-year Ryan Miller. "I had a great time, and it felt like the hard work we've been putting in was really starting to show. I am feeling very excited for our upcoming races."

Fairfield finished first in the women's first varsity eight+ with a time of 8:03.79. The Lehigh first varsity eight+ finished second at 8:26.64. The Mountain Hawks won the second varsity eight+ race, besting the Stags and the Gaels with a time of 8:07.99. Lehigh's first varsity four+ won their race with a finish in 9:17.13. The Lehigh second varsity four+ also won their race with a time of 8:51.75.

"Ava Albano encouraged us to maintain the high energy and positivity we channeled in practices this week despite challenging conditions today," said junior Lily Glenning. "I think our attitude and tone played a huge part in the success our lineup saw racing today."

Following the races with Fairfield and Iona, Lehigh battled Patriot League foe Loyola one on one. The men's first varsity eight+ narrowly edged out the Greyhounds 6:43.44 to 6:44.16. The Lehigh second varsity eight+ and third varsity eight+ then faced off against Loyola's second varsity eight+, finishing first and second at 7:09.02 and 7:25.18 respectively.

"We put up two strong race reps despite the challenging conditions today," said junior William Snider. "It was a great start to our season and looking forward to the races ahead."

On the women's side, Loyola bested Lehigh's first varsity eight+ 7:58.89 to 8:04.68. Lehigh's second varsity eight+ came away with a win in 8:14.58. Both the first varsity four+ and second varsity four+ won their races with times of 9:45.98 and 9:58.84 respectively.

"It was my first race as a Lehigh rower," said first-year Ryann McDonald. "Despite the conditions, we pushed through and showed true grit. We have a lot to work on and I'm excited to see what our future races bring."

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 13 at the Knecht Cup in Cooper River, N.J.
