10/4/2026 4:36:00 PM | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – Lehigh men's and women's rowing traveled west on Saturday for a day of rowing on the Susquehanna River hosted by the Bucknell Bison. The women faced off against Bucknell, Delaware, and Drexel while the men competed solely against Bucknell.
"I'm pleased with the start to the competitive season," said Director of Rowing and Steven J. '69 & Karen A. Lee head women's rowing coach Peter Costas. "Each boat executed as we'd expected in a challenging environment. They competed well."
The men's first and second varsity eights competed against five Bucknell eights boats. Lehigh's first varsity eight finished in second place out of seven boats with a time of 18:28.60 while the Lehigh second varsity eight took fifth at 19:23.58.
Lehigh had three women's eights racing in a pool of 14 boats against Bucknell, Delaware, and Drexel. The first varsity eight finished fourth at 20:34.82, the second varsity eight took eighth at 21:13.42, and the third varsity eight finished in 12th with a time of 22:30.63.
One Lehigh men's four also raced against two Bucknell fours, which saw the Mountain Hawks finish in third with a time of 22:26.34.
"I thought Olivia Shafer and Avery McGowan did a nice job," said Costas. "They're both team first racers and have been open to us trying different sides and spots in the lineups through this fall. It's cool to see them putting it together."
The Mountain Hawks return to the water on Saturday, October 10 at the Head of the Housatonic in Shelton, Connecticut.
"Looking forward to getting back to work," said Costas. "When the energy, enthusiasm, and attack are there as a team on race day it raises the confidence and focus at practice."
