Mountain Hawks Kick-Off Season Against Fordham

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lehigh men's rowing kicked off the 2025 campaign on Saturday afternoon at the Steiner/Sternberg Boathouse against the Fordham Rams. The Mountain Hawks competed against the Rams in two 1500-meter races in eights and two fours races.
"It was extremely valuable to line up against a worthy opponent for some pieces close to full race distance and get to test our speed before traveling to bigger competitions," said assistant coach Gavin Boyd-Goodrich. "Good to get the work in heading into the heart of our racing schedule."
In the first race of the day, the Lehigh first varsity eight+ came away with a win in the 1500-meter race. Fordham's first varsity eight+ finished second while Lehigh's second varsity eight+ came in third. In the second race, Lehigh's first varsity eight+ was once again victorious and the second varsity eight+ bested Fordham's squad to take second.
"Very exciting to get spring racing started with a scrimmage on our home course," said senior Baxter Reihman. "The whole team came focused and ready to race today. We are continuing to find our form as we look forward to solid competition coming over the next few weeks."
The Mountain Hawks came away victorious in the first fours race of the day, as the Lehigh first varsity four+ came in first while the Lehigh second varsity four+ placed second. Lehigh's first varsity four+ also won the second race, but Fordham's boat finished ahead of the second varsity four+ in race two.
"Today was a super strong and successful day for our squad," said sophomore John Deutch. "We got some dual race experience under our belts which was important for our first-years and the rest of the team as we prepare for championship season. It was fun to watch the guys win some pieces against the other team and improve our speed on the water."
Men's rowing returns to action next weekend on April 5 for a dual meet against Loyola Maryland, Fairfield and Iona at Lake Nockamixon, Pa.
