Strong Final Round Lifts Lehigh To Seventh Place At UC San Diego Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Lehigh men's golf team finished with a flourish in its first event of the spring season. The Mountain Hawks shot eight under par 280 on the final day of action at Torrey Pines, tied for the second lowest team round of the day, to move up to a seventh place finish in the 54-hole, 17-team event that wrapped up Tuesday. Lehigh finished the tournament at 881 (305-296-280).  
 
All five of Lehigh's players shot 75 or better on Tuesday with four shooting even par or lower. Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc and junior Jahan Bains carded final rounds of 69 to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks.
 
LeBlanc carded five birdies, including four in his final eight holes to move into the top 10 individually. He tied for seventh place at one over par 217 (75-73-69). LeBlanc had or shared the low round of the day for the Mountain Hawks in all three rounds of action.
 
Bains made four birdies, a bogey and 13 pars in his final round 69 as he moved into a tie for 30th place at 221 (76-76-69).
 
Graduate student David Hurly shot two under par 70 on Tuesday and was Lehigh's No. 2 finisher, tying for 18th at 219 (76-73-70). Hurly made three birdies, a bogey and 14 pars in Tuesday's final round.
 
Senior Edmund Broderick made par on his first 10 holes and 14 holes overall, along with two birdies. Broderick shot 72 Tuesday and tied for 58th place at 224 (78-74-72).
 
Sophomore Will Caronchi enjoyed his best round of the tournament, making one birdie in a round of 75 to finish in a tie for 93rd at 235 (80-80-75).
 
Competing as an individual, first-year Matthew Quinn finished in 102nd place at 240 (81-81-78). Quinn made three birdies in his final round.
 
North Dakota State rolled to the team title, matching Lehigh with a 280 Tuesday to finish at 857 (293-284-280). The Bison defeated Idaho by nine strokes.
 
Jack Johnson of North Dakota State was the individual medalist at eight under par 208 (73-68-67). He defeated Johannes Hounsgaard of Idaho by three strokes.
 
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the Irish Creek Collegiate, hosted by Appalachian State, April 8-9 in Kannapolis, N.C.
