Lehigh Moves Up To 11th on Final Day of Irish Creek Collegiate

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – All six Lehigh entrants shot in the 70s Tuesday as the Mountain Hawks wrapped-up play at the Irish Creek Collegiate at the Club at Irish Creek. Sophomore Will Caronchi led the way with a round of one over par 71 as Lehigh shot 288 to finish the 54-hole event in a tie for 11th place at 869 (295-286-288).

Lehigh tied with Longwood for 11th in the 15-team field, 32 strokes behind team champion Jacksonville State. Radford and Western Kentucky tied for second, one stroke behind the Gamecocks.

Caronchi's final round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 sixth hole and a birdie on the eighth. He tied for 60th place at 233 (75-77-71).

Lehigh's top finisher was graduate student Sam Barton, who tied for 32nd place at seven over par 217 (70-75-72). Barton made two birdies in his final round 72.

One stroke behind Barton was senior Edmund Broderick, who tied for 41st at 218 (77-68-73). Broderick's second round 68 was the low round of the tournament for Lehigh. His final round was highlighted by an eagle and birdie back-to-back on the fifth and sixth holes.

Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc tied for 47th place at 220 (74-72-74). LeBlanc made a pair of birdies in his final round.

Graduate student David Hurly saved his best round for last, shooting two over par 72 Tuesday to tie for 73rd place at 226 (76-78-72). Hurly's final round included three birdies.

Junior Jahan Bains made one birdie in a final round 79 and tied for 80th place at 229 (79-71-79).

There was a three-way tie for the individual title with California Baptist's Fred Tindale prevailing on the fourth playoff hole over Longwood's Justin Larue and Bryce Corbett from Radford. All three players finished 54 holes at two under par 208.

The Mountain Hawks will next play at Lafayette's ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, Apr. 14-15 at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pa.
