
Mountain Hawks Win Second Straight Team Title At ABARTA Collegiate Invitational

EASTON, Pa. – With a round of four under par 284, the Lehigh men's golf team made it back-to-back team titles at Lafayette's ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, as the tournament concluded on Monday. The Mountain Hawks topped the 12-team field with a final total of 572 (288-284) as Lehigh finished 13 strokes clear of runner-up Mount St. Mary's. Fordham finished in third place, 14 strokes behind Lehigh.

All eight Lehigh golfers finished in the top 25 individually, including five in the top 14.

Graduate student David Hurly was the low Lehigh finisher, tying for third place at two under par 142 (73-69). Hurly carded six birdies in the low round of the day for the Mountain Hawks.

Sophomore Will Caronchi, the 18-hole leader, tied for fifth place at one under par 143. Caronchi followed up his 67 with a 76 that included one birdie.

Three Mountain Hawks were part of a three-way tie for 10th place at two over par 146: senior Edmund Broderick, junior Jahan Bains, and graduate student Sam Barton. Broderick shot 73 in both of his rounds, including four birdies on Monday. Bains went 75-71 and had a birdie and an eagle (par 5 seventh hole) in his final round. One of three Mountain Hawks competing as individuals, Barton also went 75-71 and made four birdies in his final round.

Another of Lehigh's individuals, first-year Matthew Quinn, tied for 19th place at 148 (71-77). Quinn carded a pair of birdies in his final round.

Sophomores Aiden LeBlanc and Jake Roth both shot 71 Monday and tied for 23rd place at 149 (78-71). LeBlanc made five birdies in his final round, while Roth made four.

This is Lehigh's second tournament win of the 2023-24 season. The Mountain Hawks won their Lehigh Invitational back in October.

Fordham's Jake Mrva was the individual medalist at five under par 139 (72-67). Mrva defeated Ben Smith of Mount St. Mary's by one stroke.

Lehigh will play Lafayette Thursday in the annual Presidents' Cup match play event Thursday at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J. The Mountain Hawks will then shift focus to the Patriot League Championship, Apr. 26-28 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
