Mountain Hawks record 20 PRs at Happy Easter Races

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field teams hosted the Happy Easter Races on Saturday at the Goodman Track and field complex. The Brown and White welcomed in Binghamton, Bucknell, Lafayette, Shippensburg and Wagner to campus. Throughout the day-long event, the Mountain Hawks won four total events, two on the men's side and two on the women's side.
Lehigh's women finished second on the day with a total of 153 point, 71.5 points behind the first-place Bucknell Bison. Binghamton finished third with a score of 81.5 points. Lehigh's men team finished the day in fourth with a total of 101.5 points. Binghamton took first at 131 points, while Bucknell's men placed second at 123. Wagner College finished in third-place at 110.5 points.
Starting with the women, Lehigh's two wins came from Veronica Meyer in the javelin and Brett DeWeese in the 100mH. Meyer's throw of 39.93m (131'0") gave her the victory, while teammate Brianna Wanbaugh finished behind her in second with a throw of 38.91m. In the 100mH, DeWeese blew by competitors with a time of 14.92.
Senior Brittany Curtin tallied two second-place finishes in the hammer and the discus. Curtin finished the discus with a mark of 40.28m and 51.79m (169'11") in the hammer. After registering a win in the javelin, Meyer also finished second in the discus at 40.18m.
In the field events, Teasha McKoy finished second in the shot put at 12.85m (43'2"). On the track, freshman Lindsay MacLellan placed second with a time of 11:31.39, while Kaja Skerlj also tallied a second-place finish in the 400mH at 1:04.39. Lehigh's 4x100m relay team finished second at 49.60 seconds.
In the pole vault, Maddy Hawkins recorded a third-place finish with a mark at 3.50m, while Natalie Condon also recorded a third-place finish in the 1500m at 4:46.04. Freshman Kerry Perna finished fourth in the high jump at 1.60m while Calista Marzolino finished fifth with a same score at 1.60m. Rachel Sequeira finished fourth in the triple jump at 11.32m, and then Jade Sessions totaled a fourth-place finish in the 800m at 2:17.66.
On the men's side, Ian Scott and Conor Reilly recorded the two wins for the Mountain Hawks. Scott took first in the high jump at 1.95m (6'4.75"), while Reilly took the win in the pole vault with a mark at 4.65m (15'3"). Scott would then go on and finish third in the triple jump at 13.75m (45'1.50").
Senior Riley LaRiviere picked up two second-place finishes in the field events. LaRiviere finished second in the discus at 44.30m (145'4"), while then placing second in the hammer throw with a throw of 53.39m (175'2"). Keeping up his impressive spring season, Michael Nardelli ended up second with a time of 15.57 in the 110mH.
In the steeplechase, senior Nick Norton took third with a time of 9:30.62, while sophomore Connor Melko tallied a third-place finish in the 1500m at 3:55.77. Sprinter Amondo Lemmon placed third in the 400m with a time of 50.78. Senior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum took fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 14:58.22, while teammate Nick Wilson managed a fifth-place finish at 15:01.02.
Up next, both Lehigh track and field teams will embark to Lewisburg next Sunday for the Bison Classic.
