Lehigh wraps up action at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh finished action at the Penn Relays on Saturday as four athletes competed.  Leading the way was Khalil Uqdah who placed fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 17’4.5”, while James Pachucki (182’11”) and Kevin Steimle (167’2”) competed in the javelin and Stephen Tutunjian finished 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 45’11”.

 

Uqdah competed in the Men's College Championship group and with his vault he broke his own Lehigh outdoor record. The record-breaking vault now ranks him 19th nationally this outdoor season according to the TFRRS (Track and Field Results Reporting System) rankings.

 

Friday’s highlight came from senior Nick Ray who registered a throw of 50’11” in the shot put to place eighth in the 31-competitor field.  The 4x100 men’s’ relay team ran its opening heat in a time of 43.29, and Stephen Tutunjian finished 15th in the long jump with a leap of 22’7”.

 

On Thursday at the Penn Relays Emily Settle placed 11th in the hammer with a throw of 164’2” while Kathryn McLaughin tied for 14th in the high jump.  The winners of the event jumped the same height, but McLaughlin faulted on her first attempt.  Her classmate Ashlee Atwell tied for 18th in the pole vault with a vault of 11’6.25”.  Also on Thursday the women’s distance medley team placed 15th in its race with a time of 12:04.55.

Lehigh will return to action on May 1 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Lewisburg for the 2010 Patriot League championship.
