GREENSBORO, N.C. – Steve Tutunjian competed in the triple jump at the NCAA East Region championship on Saturday afternoon on the campus of North Carolina A&T University as the sophomore recorded a leap of 45’7 ¼” in his first attempt. Tutunjian then jumped even further on his next two attempts but fouled on both, ending his day against a tough field of competitors.
“I cannot tell you how proud of Steve I am,” explained Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch. “He made huge strides this season, improving nearly three feet in the triple jump. He is clearly the future of our program. I feel strongly that he will be back to the national championship in the future.”
Tutunjian was joined in North Carolina by senior Khalil Uqdah who cleared 16’8 ¾” in the pole vault on Thursday and finished 22nd in a field of 48 competitors.
