Lehigh concludes action at ECAC/IC4A champ.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Four athletes competed for Lehigh on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up action at the 2010 ECAC/IC4A outdoor championship.  Among the Lehigh athletes who competed were Nick Ray in the shot put, Steve Tutunjian in the triple jump and James Pachucki and Kevin Steimle in the javelin.

 

In the triple jump Tutunjian placed 14th out of more than 30 competitors with a leap of 48’0”, while in the shot put Ray recorded a throw of 48’6 ¼” which placed him in 30th place.  In the javelin Pachucki placed 31st with a throw of 182’0” and Steimle finished in 35th after recording a throw of 168’7”.

 

On Saturday senior Khalil Uqdah captured his second IC4A pole vault championship in three years as he cleared 17’1” to place first in the event and defeat student-athletes from the likes of UConn, Penn, Cornell, Princeton, Yale and Harvard among others. 

 

Also on Saturday Catherine Bigelow finished action in the heptathlon as she competed in three events including the long jump, which she finished in 13th place, the javelin in which she recorded a sixth place finish and the 800 where she crossed in tenth place.  Other competitors included Emily Settle who was only 14 centimeters off her personal record in the hammer throw and the women’s 4x800 relay team which was just five seconds away from advancing to the finals.

 

On the men’s side the 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams competed, as did Tutunjian who finished in 26th in the long jump. 

 

Lehigh began action in New Jersey on Friday evening as four student-athletes competed, including Bigelow, who opened action in the heptathlon, Katherine Piece in the 10K, Steve Sample in the 10K and Evan Flach in the 5K.

 

In two weeks, Uqdah will next head to Greensboro, North Carolina as he competes in the opening round of the NCAA championship.
