PHILADELPHIA – On a wet, windy Saturday at Franklin Field, No. 6/7 Lehigh defeated Penn 20-7 for its fifth straight win. An outstanding defensive effort that saw Lehigh (5-0) allow just 95 yards into the middle of the fourth quarter was complemented by strong special teams play and two third-quarter touchdowns.

Defensively, the Mountain Hawks were credited with three sacks and had six tackles for loss. Lehigh limited Penn (1-1) to 182 yards of offense, 74 of which came on the Quakers' lone touchdown drive, and just 49 on the ground.

Lehigh was held to 217 yards of offense but with the wind at their backs, the Mountain Hawks broke open a 3-0 game with a pair of third quarter touchdowns.

Junior Connor Poole opened the scoring with a 48-yard field goal late in the opening quarter and Lehigh's defense made sure the 3-0 lead stood at halftime. The Mountain Hawks failed on a 4th-and-2 late in the second quarter but on the first play of Penn's ensuing drive, sophomore Lucas Manderbach broke through with a sack, setting the Quakers behind the sticks.

After an exchange of punts to begin the third quarter, Lehigh took over at Penn's 28 following a short punt into the wind. A pass interference penalty set Lehigh up at the Penn 13. Two plays later sophomore quarterback Derek Morgan scored on an 11-yard keeper to put Lehigh up 10-0.

Lehigh's defense pitched a 3-and-out and the Mountain Hawks got the ball back at the Penn 33. Four plays later Morgan connected with junior Jamaire Harden on a 20-yard touchdown pass, Harden's first career touchdown, to put the Mountain Hawks up 17.

Poole connected on a 29-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

With five minutes to play, Penn had been limited to one second-half yard of offense. The Quakers put together a 74-yard drive with Tommy Lafayette's one-yard run preventing the shutout.

Lehigh rushed for 168 yards, led by senior Luke Yoder, who gained 74 on 19 carries. Morgan completed 6-of-15 for 49 yards and a touchdown and ran seven times for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Harden was the top receiver with two catches for 25 yards.

Senior William Parton was the top tackler with eight stops. First-year Josh Lenart added seven tackles and a sack.

The Mountain Hawks return to Goodman Stadium next Saturday to host Fordham on Tackle Cancer, presented by Red Robin, with game time set for noon. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-758-4263 during business hours.

EXTRA POINTS… Lehigh has now won 22 consecutive regular season games… the Mountain Hawks won at Franklin Field for the first time since 2016… Lehigh was plus-2 in turnover margin with junior Luke Denny and first-year Mick McKee recording interceptions… the Mountain Hawks wore their brown pants for the first time this season… junior Preston Davis was credited with Lehigh's third sack… Poole's 48-yard field goal tied the mark for third-longest field goal in school history and is Lehigh's longest since Matt Douglas' school-record 51-yarder in 2003... Lehigh has now won six of its last seven games against Ivy League opponents after losing the previous 11.
