Mountain Hawks close out Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. The Lehigh track and field teams completed their final tune-up before the Patriot League championship on Saturday as they hosted the Lehigh Games on the Goodman Campus. The Mountain Hawks finished with several top finishers, which included freshman E’lana Lemon in the discus throw, freshman Jessica Perone in the 400 meter hurdles and freshman Melissa Knapp and sophomore Ifeanyi Edochie in the 200 meters.
Lemon led the women’s team by earning her first career collegiate victory in the discus with a distance of 137’ 6.0”. Perone continued her strong season in the hurdle events with a first place finish in a time of 1:04.52. Senior co-captain Lauranne Kline earned a second place finish in the hurdles, finishing right behind Perone with a time of 1:05.58. Sophomore Idelis Matias took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.71.
Knapp edged out 13 other competitors to take first in the 200 meter dash in a time 26.04. Sophomore Alexandra Doersam finished right behind Knapp in a time of 26.47. Other top women’s track performers were senior Hana Baskin in the 5,000 meters and freshman Lauren Pietrosh in the 800 meters.
On the men’s side, senior Nick Ray competed for the second straight day and came away with a first place finish in the shot put (53’ 7.70”). Edochie ran an impressive 200 meter dash in a time of 22.61 to place first.
Other highlights from the men’s side included freshman Devin Monroe finishing second in the 400 meters, junior Kyle O’Connor taking second in the 800 meters and sophomore Alexander Maurer earning a second place finish in the high jump.
The Mountain Hawks will head to Lewisburg, Pa., next weekend for the Patriot League championship to close out the season.
