Lehigh fights off rain to finish off Friday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa./PRINCETON, N.J. – Battling rainy conditions on Friday night only two of the scheduled four events took place at the Greyhound Invitational due to inclement weather. The men’s hammer throw and women’s shot put are the only completed events, while the women’s hammer throw and men’s shot put have been moved to Saturday. At the Larry Ellis Invitational on in Princeton, N.J., the weather didn’t delay the meet on Friday, as all of the events were finished.
Senior Nick Ray finished in ninth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 155’ 11.0”. Freshman Christopher Buck placed 13th in the event with a throw of 143’ 3.0”.
In the women’s shot put, junior Rebecca Graziano was Lehigh’s top finisher with a throw of 32’ 4.75” to land her in 17th place. Freshman E’lana Lemon was right behind her in 19th place with a throw of 31’ 1.25”.
Lehigh’s distance runners competed in New Jersey and sophomore Katherine Pierce followed up her impressive showing last week by finishing 22nd in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:42.15.
On the men’s side, junior Stephan Abate was the Brown and White’s top finisher in the 1,500 meters, as he placed 34th with a time of 3:53.61. Junior Evan Flach was right behind him in 41st place with a time of 3:54.96. Junior Jordan Inacio ran a personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time 9:29.54 to place 25th.
The action will pick back up at the Greyhound Invitational Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the field events. Check back to Lehighsports.com Saturday evening for full results from Moravian.
