EASTON, Pa. – Leading 8-4, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team scored 10 of the game's final 11 goals to pick up a convincing 18-5 win at Lafayette on Saturday. The victory marks the Mountain Hawks' sixth in the last seven games as they improve to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League. Seven different Lehigh players tallied multiple points while graduate student Sondra Dickey caused six turnovers, just one from tying a program record.
Dickey is up to 102 career caused turnovers after Saturday's effort, just one from tying and two from breaking Julianne D'Orazio's program record. Dickey is just one of eight active players in the nation with 100+ caused turnovers.
Dickey also added two goals, one assist, seven draw controls and a career-high six groundballs. Sophomore Katia Carnevale led the offense with five goals, all in the first half. Classmate Gabby Schneider had three goals and three assists while Emma Eberhardt recorded two goals and two assists.
After Lafayette scored first, goals from Eberhardt, senior Hannah Cermack and Carnevale put the Mountain Hawks ahead, 3-2. Carnevale wound up scoring five of Lehigh's nine first-half goals as the Mountain Hawks held a 9-4 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Lehigh scored the first seven second-half goals to extend its run to 8-0, behind six different scorers. Dickey from Schneider with 7:02 left in the second half gave the Mountain Hawks a 16-4 lead. In the end, Lehigh's defense shut-out Lafayette for 32:04 until the Leopards scored late in the second half, but goals from Schneider and junior Nora Giordano rounded out the 18-5 final.
The Mountain Hawks finished with a 43-18 edge in shots, 22-9 advantage in groundballs and 14-11 edge in draw controls. Senior Samantha Sagi made five saves for Lehigh across Lafayette's Quinn Lacy, who made 15. Saturday marked Lehigh's seventh straight win over Lafayette.
Lehigh was scheduled to host American next Saturday, but that game has been postponed (due to Navy and American needing to play to get South Division games in). Check back to Lehighsports.com and the Mountain Hawks' social media accounts for any updates on the schedule.
