Mountain Hawks Bested by American in Offensive Battle

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh took on American University on Friday afternoon on Frank Banko '41 Field. The Mountain Hawks fell to the Eagles 19-15.
Lehigh came out hot to start, scoring three goals in the first three minutes. American brought it within one from goals by Jasmine Connor and Shannon Silvius, but Molly Snow found the back of the net to bring the Mountain Hawks' lead back to two. Gracie Shoup and Kacie Wines scored their second goals of the game to finish the first with Lehigh up 6-3.
The Eagles scored 38 seconds into the second quarter, but Lehigh responded with three straight goals from Shoup, Grace Martel, and Chloe DelNegro. American answered with five goals in the final 4:16 to head into the half trailing 10-9.
The offense ramped up early in the first five minutes of the second half, with Mountain Hawks netting three goals and the Eagles scoring one. American found the back of the net three more times to tie the game at 13-13 with one period remaining.
American's Julia Pope broke the tie three and a half minutes into the period. Wines tied it up 1:38 later, but a costly penalty resulted in three American goals. American held on to win the game 19-15.
Shoup, Wines, and Snow shared the leading scorer honors for Lehigh, with each of them netting a hat trick. Shoup and Wines were Lehigh's assists leaders, picking up three each. Martel and Schulties also each picked up two goals of their own.
Hanna McConnell and Chloe DelNegro anchored the defense, with McConnell causing two turnovers and DelNegro picking up three ground balls.
Snow and Morgan Lesiewicz captained the draw circle for Lehigh. Snow had a game-high six draw controls, while Lesiewicz had four.
Micaela Jennings manned the net for the entirety of the game. She stopped seven shots.
Reagan Murdoch led American in scoring, notching five. Silvius and Killie Linehan each scored four goals of their own.
The Mountain Hawks (5-5, 0-3 PL) will attempt to get back in the win column on Wednesday against Navy. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
