BETHLEHEM, Pa. –After its first road trip of the season last weekend, the Lehigh men's tennis team (2-3) returns home to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks will play host to the Duquesne Dukes at 5:00 p.m.
After starting off the season a perfect 2-0, Lehigh has now dropped three close matches in which the Brown and White had a chance to win late. This Saturday they seem determined to get back on track.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Hawks dropped both of their road matches. Lehigh lost a brutal match to the Villanova Wildcats last Saturday, while then falling to the Delaware Blue Hens last Sunday, 5-2.
BACK-TO-BACK
Sophomore Zack Elliott was again named Patriot League Player of the Week. This was second straight time getting the award for the Mountain Hawks. Elliott shined again for the Brown and White, as he went 1-1 in both singles and doubles. In his win, Elliott showed determination and grit, as he dropped the first set to Delaware's Stefan Suarez, 4-6. However, the sophomore would rally to take the next two sets to win the match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
QUOTABLE
"I'm very happy for Zack on earning back-to-back Player of the Week honors. A truly remarkable achievement considering the strong competition he faces every week." Said head coach Wouter Hendrix.
ABOUT DUQUESNE
Like Lehigh, the Dukes are coming into Bethlehem on a bit of downplay. Duquesne is currently 3-5 on the season, as they recently just snapped a losing streak with a win over Denison University. This year the Dukes have lost to Dayton, Richmond, Morgan State, George Washington and VCU. The other wins came against Mount St. Mary's and Carnegie Mellon. Alex Mascioli is 4-4 in the No. 1 spot, while Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal is 2-2 at the No. 2 spot.
UP NEXT
The Mountain Hawks will take a short break and rest their bodies, as they will embark on their next road trip in two weeks. Lehigh will be traveling down to Orlando for three matches against James Madison, Bentley and Case Western. The start of those three matches will be March 8.
