
Hsu shoots final round 66 as Mountain Hawks finish seventh at Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. – Junior Johnny Hsu fired a final round five under par 66 to move into a tie for fifth place overall and lift the Lehigh men's golf team to a seventh place finish as the 19-team Wildcat Invitational wrapped up Tuesday at White Manor Golf Club.
Hsu's 66 was the low round of the two-day, 36-hole event and featured seven birdies and just two birdies along with nine pars Tuesday. The round also included a 31 on the front nine. Hsu tied for fifth place overall at even par 142 (76-66). The round of 66 was the lowest by a Lehigh player since sophomore Owen Quinn shot 66 in the final round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational in October 2016.
As a team, Lehigh shaved seven strokes off its opening round Monday to post a score of 589 (298-291). The final around 291 tied for third lowest of the day.
Behind Hsu, Quinn posted a four stroke improvement over his round one score, carding three birdies Tuesday to shoot one over par 72 and finish in a tie for 29th place at 148 (76-72). Sophomore Ryan Kelly was Lehigh's top player after round one and shot 77 on Tuesday to tie for 38th place at 149 (72-77).
Senior Billy Johns made one birdie in his final round 76 to finish in a tie for 43rd at 150 (74-76). Junior Eamon Marone made a five stroke improvement from round one to round two but finished in 96th place at 161 (83-78).
Sophomore Chris Pollan competed as an individual and tied for 82nd place at 156 (77-79).
Drexel captured the team title with a final score of 573 (282-291), beating Rhode Island by five strokes, while St. John's finished third, 11 strokes off the lead. Lehigh posted the top finish of the four Patriot League schools in the field (Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette).
David Powers of St. Peter's was the individual medalist at four under par 138 (68-70). He defeated A.J. Skinner of Wagner by two strokes.
The Mountain Hawks will be back on the links this weekend when they compete at the Navy Spring Invitational, Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Md.
