
Quinn, Mountain Hawks rise up to claim second place at Navy Spring Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Cold, wet conditions made scoring difficult on the final day of the Navy Spring Invitational, but the Lehigh men's golf team battled through the tough conditions to finish in a tie for second place in the 13-team field at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Lehigh's final round 311 was third best on the day as the Mountain Hawks finished with a score of 613 (302-311), matching first round leader Towson for second place.

George Washington had the low round of the day, shooting 305 to claim the team title at 604 (299-305). Saint Joseph's finished in fourth place, eight strokes behind the Mountain Hawks and Tigers.

The low individual round of the day was four over par 75 and Lehigh sophomore Owen Quinn was one of three players to shoot that score on Sunday. Quinn began the day tied for 10th place and moved up to finish second at seven over par 149 (74-75). He finished two strokes behind medalist Jack Porcelli of George Washington who posted a score of 147 (71-76).

Given the conditions, four of Lehigh's five scoring players broke 80, which helped the Mountain Hawks rise to the runner-up spot. Senior Billy Johns shot 78 to move into a tie for 10th place at 153 (75-78).

Sophomore Ryan Kelly and junior Johnny Hsu both shot final round 79s. Kelly tied for 24th place at 157 (78-79), while Hsu tied for 35th at 160 (81-79).

Lehigh's fifth scorer was junior Max Redetzke, who followed a 75 Saturday with an 84 on Sunday to tie for 32nd place at 159.

Junior Eamon Marone, competing as an individual, tied for 40th place at 161 (75-86).

The Mountain Hawks will face rival Lafayette in stroke play at The Steel Club on Tuesday April 24 before hosting the Patriot League Championship April 28-28 at Saucon Valley Country Club.
