Bottom of Lineup Clinches Win Over Villanova

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks picked up their second-straight victory Saturday in a 5-2 win over Villanova as a sweep at the bottom of the lineup sealed the victory. Lehigh improves to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Wildcats in back-to-back seasons, while Villanova falls to 1-1 on the season.
Lehigh got things started by clinching the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 victories at the first and second flights. Christina Auyeung and Casey Zhong improved their season win streak to two with their victory at the top flight. At the second flight, Sibel Can and Grace Lin snapped a two-match skid and picked their first win of the season.
In the singles matches, the bottom of the lineup came up big as LU claimed victories at the fourth, fifth and sixth flights. Freshman Casey Zhong posted a critical victory at the fifth set and was the only player to win in straight-sets with her 7-5, 6-3 victory over Victoria Martinez. Lin contributed with a victory at the fourth flight and Briana Maravich closed things out with a three-set win at the sixth spot.
The Mountain Hawks return to the courts next weekend for a pair of home matches. Lehigh will face Stony Brook on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by Delaware on Sunday at 2 p.m.
