BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's tennis picked up its second Patriot League win of the weekend as the Mountain Hawks downed Colgate 5-2 Sunday on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. For the second straight day, Lehigh dropped the doubles point but found its stride in singles, winning five of six matches.
Sunday also served as Lehigh's Senior Day celebration with senior Bella Peters honored prior to the match.
Lehigh improves to 6-11 overall and 2-1 in Patriot League action.
"We put ourselves in a tough spot again today by dropping the doubles point, and that's something we need to clean up," said head coach Sophia Geier. "I'm really proud of how the team responded in singles. There was a lot of toughness, composure and belief across the courts, and you could feel the momentum shift as we settled in."
Maggie Forkner and Alina Shyani opened doubles play with a 6-2 win over Sasha Herman and Carina Cristobal on court two, but Colgate came back with a win at No. 1 doubles and took the decisive match at No. 3 as Rebecca Hess and Avery Isaac won 6-3 over Peters and Ronit Khromchenko.
Shyani opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Anya Kunar on court four. A Colgate win on court five put the Raiders up 2-1 before the Mountain Hawks claimed the final four matches to secure the victory.
First-year Alice Ann Pantsari won 6-2, 7-5 over Cristobal at No. 6 to pull Lehigh even at 2-2 and then first-year Lena Dogadalski gave the Mountain Hawks the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sophia Montero on court two.
Forkner delivered the clinching point at the top flight, winning 7-5, 6-3 over Amelia Galin. Giselle Vlassis came back from a set down to defeat Hess 10-7 in a third set 10-point tiebreak at No. 3 to close out the victory.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Loyola Friday to face the Greyhounds at 2 p.m.
