BOSTON – Unlike the men, the Mountain Hawk women found themselves in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon with Boston University and Northeastern in Boston. Lehigh took the victory over BU 159-141, and fell to Northeastern 156-144.
Â
The meet was highlighted by five first place finishes in events, including dominant individual performances from many different swimmers and divers. The Mountain Hawks finished with a podium in 11 events.
Â
"Our women really showed they are back to compete even after losing such strong class last year," said head coach Rob Herb. "We're led by seniors Kate Bergin, Courtney Ferreira, Allison Morel and Rayna Smilowitz, as this year's team seems to be ready to race and compete."
Â
Starting with the 200 yard medley relay, Lehigh placed third as the team of Anna Francisco, Anna Thomas, Olivia Giampietro, and Payton Miles swam to a time of 1:48.08.
Â
Tori Connolly finished third in the 1000 yard freestyle event with a time of 10:35.42, just a little behind the winning time of 10:27.20.
Â
Ann Foley came in third place in the 200 yard freestyle event at 1:52.76 while Courtney Ferreira just missed the podium with a fourth place finish of 1:54.79.
Â
The first win of the meet for the Mountain Hawks came in the 100 yard backstroke event as Francisco cruised to victory with a time of 57.97. Nicole Shek placed third at 58.97.
Â
Annie Norris kept the momentum going with a victory in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:08.71. Sarah Horne placed third at 2:09.46.
Â
While the winner swam to a time of 23.31, Payton Miles just missed out on winning the 50 yard freestyle event, swimming to a time of 23.71 on Saturday, while Ann Foley finished third at 24.20.
Â
Miles also finished third in the 100 yard freestyle at 52.48, with Foley coming in fourth at 52.64 and Ferreira swimming a 52.91 to finish fifth.
Â

Â
Ferreira was victorious on the 200 yard individual medley, beating out the rest of her competitors and finishing with a 2:08.12.
Â
"We are in a great place right now," said Herb. "The team swam and dove tough, especially after six hours on a bus.
Â
"We got a win against another top team, so we'll definitely take it."
Â
On the diving side, Megan Fennell placed second with a score of 239.55 in the 1 meter dive, while she scored a 249.25 to take home first place in the 3 meter dive.
Â
"Megan really showed her Patriot League championship style when she won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events," said Herb.
Â
To round out the swimming results, it was Miles, Foley, Ferreira, and Evie Gieseman taking home the victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay to a time of 3:29.78.
Â
"That relay win was a really big one for us," said Herb. "It really made a statement on the women's side today."
