BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Coming off a split against Boston University and Northeastern to open the season, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team returns to Jacobs Pool this weekend for a Friday meet with West Chester at 5 p.m. and a Saturday meet with Rider at 1 p.m.

The women won five events two weekends ago, including a dominant performance in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Junior Payton Miles, sophomore Ann Foley, senior Courtney Ferreira and sophomore Evie Gieseman swam to a time of 3:29.78 to claim the crown. The win highlighted a day that resulted in a 159-141 win over BU and a 156-144 loss to Northeastern.

In the 100 yard backstroke event, sophomore Anna Francisco got the victory with a winning time of 57.97. Freshman Annie Norris won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.71.

Miles' time of 23.71 was good enough for second in the 50 yard freestyle, with Foley finishing third at 24.20.

Sophomore Anna Thomas finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a fast time of 2:27.87.

Defending Patriot League champion Megan Fennell kept her championship-winning mentality on the diving board for the first meet of the season with a win in the three-meter dive with a score of 249.25 and finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 239.55.

With an influx of freshman for the new season and a lot of key departures from last season, a 1-1 start to the season is a good place for a team with a lot of new faces.

According to head coach Rob Herb, the split weekend was a "statement" day for the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team and they will attempt to bring the same momentum over to their first two home meets of the 2018-19 season.

West Chester visits Bethlehem on Friday as one of the top women's programs in Division II. With the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) preseason poll coming out on Wednesday afternoon, the Rams were ranked tied for fifth in the preseason Top 25, the only team ranked from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

The Rams are paced by Ann Carozza who was a part of three winning relays last weekend against Shippensburg and Southern Connecticut State and also captured the 100-yard freestyle event. Georgia Wright won both the 500 yard and 1650-yard freestyle events to lead West Chester to a win.

Rider enters Saturday's meet looking for retribution after falling to the Mountain Hawks 201-99 last season. The Broncs are coming off a 163-101 win over Siena last Saturday in Lawrenceville. Rider won the first 11 events of the day thanks to strong performances from freshman Caylie Cardona winning the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events. Freshman Aubrey Marish won the 1,000 freestyle event with a winning mark for 10:55.17.

Four other freshman claimed victories in the meet with Kyra Schwerzler winning the 200 yard freestyle, Kylie McMahon won the 200 yard butterfly, Anastasia Aleksandrova was victorious in the 100 yard freestyle and Kayla May rounded out the field with 200 yard backstroke victory.

McMahon was named MAAC Women's Swimmer of the Week and Meg Tomayko was tabbed as MAAC Women's Diver of the Week for her one meter dive victory with a score of 255.82.
