Relay Silver Medal Leads Lehigh To Sixth Place Finish at Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lehigh competed in the fourth and final day of the Patriot League Championships on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks left the United States Naval Academy in sixth place with 634 points.
Reagan Gilligan was Lehigh's lone competitor in the 1650 yard freestyle, and came home with points. The first-year scored three with a 22nd place finish, swimming a personal best 17:41.00 to do so.
Eliza Johnson qualified for the A Final for the 200-yard backstroke off the back of a season's best time (2:00.79). She touched in 2:01.59 in the final, placing eighth overall. Sophomore Claire Coughlin also used a personal record race to advance to the B Final (2:02.66). She then lowered her record once again, swimming 2:01.66 to earn 12th place. First-years Bonita Zuo and Sophie Perry both scored points in the C Final as well. Zuo scored five with her 20th place finish (2:03.48), and Perry took one point by finishing in 24th (2:06.42).
Seniors Mairin Ludwig and Caitlin Deitch swam their way into the A Final of the 100 yard freestyle in the morning's preliminary round. Ludwig secured the fifth place spot, swimming 50.48 in her final individual collegiate race. Deitch came away with a seventh place finish, swimming 50.86. Genevieve Cody placed in the B Final of the event. She took 11th, touching in 51.19.
Emma Gyorkos was Lehigh's lone point scorer in the 200 yard breaststroke, as she placed 21st. She scored four points with her 2:22.14 swim.
Deitch swam her final individual race in college in the championship race of the 200 yard butterfly. She earned that spot with a personal best (2:00.43) in the preliminary round, and swam 2:00.87 to finish as the fifth best Patriot League swimmer in that event. Clara Moschella was the runner up in the B Final of the event. The sophomore broke her personal record in the process, touching in 2:02.41 to take the final spot of the top 10.
Lehigh concludes the Patriot League Championship with their second podium finish of the meet. The team of Ludwig, Johnson, Cody, and Deitch swam 3:21.08 to take silver in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Lehigh will head back to the Naval Academy next weekend for their final meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks will compete in the ECAC Championships, taking place from February 27 to March 1.
