Lehigh Swimming and Diving to Compete at Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head to Bucknell University to compete at the 2017 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 15 to Saturday, Feb. 19. The events will take place at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium inside the Kenneth Langone Athletics & Recreation Center in Lewisburg, Pa.
The championships will begin with the women's three-meter diving trials on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with finals for day's events starting at 6 p.m. Preliminary events will begin each day (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) at 10 a.m., followed by finals each day at 6 p.m.

In the Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Preseason Poll, Navy was predicted to finish first at the 2017 Patriot League Championships as the Mids garnered 16 first-place votes and 160 points. Army West Point was predicted to finish as the runner-up and earned 146 points along with the remaining four first-place votes. Bucknell totaled 125 points for third place ahead of Boston University (116 points), and Lehigh rounded out the top five with 103 points.
For the women, Navy also garnered the top spot in the preseason poll with 18 first-place votes and collected the maximum 162 points. Army West Point was tabbed to finish second with a total of 135 points and ahead of Bucknell (128) and Boston University (124), with each receiving a first-place vote. Lehigh came in fifth with a total of 99 points and was followed by Colgate (sixth – 83 points), Loyola Maryland (seventh – 68 points), American (eighth – 43 points), Lafayette (ninth – 38 points), Holy Cross (10th – 22 points).
Senior Jamal Willis enters the championships with the Patriot League's top time in the 50 freestyle at a pace of 20.33. Fellow senior teammate Justin White owns the fifth-fastest league time in the 50 free with a time of 20.62.
White also owns top-10 times in the 200 and 100 freestyle as he sits ninth in both events. Jacob Moyar enters the meet with a top-10 time of his own as he ranks 10th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.91.
The women boast eight swimmers and one diver who own top-10 marks entering the championships. The 100 freestyle has three swimmers ranked in the top-10 as Kaitlyn Ruffing ranks fifth (50.96), Julianne Koch ranks eighth (51.07) and Courtney Ferreira ranks ninth (51.14). Lehigh also has a strong showing in the 50 freestyle with Payton Miles owning the third-fastest time (23.27) and Ruffing sitting in fifth (23.34).
In the 200 butterfly, Kelly Carroll sits third with a time of 2:02.01 and Sydney Bornstein ranks fifth with at time of 2:02.68. Carroll also has a top-10 time in the 100 butterfly as she ranks eighth (56.28). Koch also has a second top-10 time as she ranks sixth in the 200 freestyle with at time of 1:49.91.
Cora Summerfield leads Lehigh in the 1650 freestyle as she ranks sixth with a time of 17:08.03 and Meghan Thompson sits ninth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 1:57.60.
Sophomore diver Rayna Smilowitz owns a top-10 score one-meter dive enter the championships as she ranks eighth with a mark of 242.32.
