BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team took home third place out of four teams on Saturday at the annual Angry Birds Challenge at Rauch Fieldhouse. Lehigh collected two individual wins on the day courtesy of sophomore Emre Soybas and junior Fritz Isaac, plus four runner-up performances from sophomores Clay Stabolepszy, Ryan Givens, John Tolbert and senior Lucas Warning, who reset the school record once again in the shot put.

Soybas picked up the first collegiate win of his career in the 200 meter dash, breaking the tape ahead of the other 15 competitors in 23.41 seconds. Isaac won the prelims of the 60m hurdles to advance to the finals, where he was victorious with a time of 8.58 seconds. He previously won the 60m hurdles at last year's Angry Birds and Lehigh-Laf dual meets.

Warning turned in another historic day for the Lehigh men, topping the 18-meter mark in the indoor shot put for the first time in program history. His new high of 18.09 meters surpassed his previous school record by 16 centimeters, which he set earlier this season. Warning took second place in Saturday's event, finishing behind an unattached competitor for the second straight meet. It marks the second time this season and fifth time overall he has reset the school indoor shot put record since he became the first male to top the 17.40m meter mark in 44 years at last winter's Angry Birds Invite.

Christopher Foley also had a solid day in the shot put, setting a new personal record of 15.28m to finish sixth overall and collect four team points.

Lehigh also got a runner-up finish in the high jump from sophomore Ryan Givens (1.99m), who later turned out a fourth place finish in the long jump with a 6.76-meter leap, setting a new indoor PR in the process. Michael Gooding led Lehigh in the triple jump by grabbing five points for his fifth place finish of 13.64m.

Freshman Joey Kelly set a season-best by clearing the bar at 4.56m in the pole vault to put him in third place overall.

In the sprints, junior Michael Camera qualified for the finals of the 60m dash, where he placed sixth (7.27) to earn five team points. James Clements led the way for Lehigh in the 400m dash, scoring points for his time of 51.91.

Moving to the mid distances, Stabolepszy took runner up out of 21 finishers in the 800m dash. Kyle Kirk also scored team points for Lehigh in eighth place. Senior Alexander Fitzgerald competed in the mile for the first time this winter, where he placed sixth overall (4:23.13). Freshman Ryan Paradise also ran a strong mile by scoring in ninth place (4:24.10) of the 39-person race.

The 3,000m run proved strong for the Mountain Hawks with junior John Tolbert (8:29.48) finishing second overall, just one spot and less than two seconds ahead of senior teammate Ryan Cooney (8:31.29). Junior Jospeh Inglis represented Lehigh in the 5K, finishing fourth in 15:53.22.

Lehigh will compete at Rauch Fieldhouse again next Saturday as they host the annual dual meet with rival Lafayette.
