Lehigh Men Top Lafayette 107-74 in 44th Annual Indoor Dual Meet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team took down Lafayette in the 44th annual meeting on the indoor track between the two rivals. The Mountain Hawks improved to 24-20 all-time against the Leopards in indoor competition with a 107-74 win at Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday. Eleven different individual winners plus the 4x800 relay team combined to win 12 of the 17 events at the meet. Freshman Matt Kravitz took home first place in the mile and was honored as Lehigh's Track Athlete of the Meet, and sophomore Ryan Givens was named the Field Athlete of the Meet after winning the high jump, finishing second in the long jump and placing fourth in the 60m hurdles. The win was also Lehigh's fourth in a row over Lafayette on the indoor track.
Juniors Michael Camera (7.15) and Fritz Isaac (7.33) took the top two places in the 60 meter dash, and Isaac would also pick up a win on the day with his 7.33-second personal record time in the 60 meter hurdles. Sophomore Emre Soybas led the way for Lehigh in both the 200m dash (3rd/23.35) and the 400m (2nd/52.42). Senior James Clements broke the tape in the 500m dash, racing his way across the finish line in 1:07.79.
Freshmen Ryan Paradise and Victor Yegon helped Lehigh score the maximum amount of points by taking the top two spots in the 800m run, with Paradise finishing in 1:58.62 and Yegon in 2:00.38. Junior Christopher Mascetti captured the first individual win of his collegiate career in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:34.70.
Kravitz took home first place in the mile by 7.74 with a time of 4:14.75. Teammate Evan Hardy came in second for Lehigh in 4:22.49. Lehigh swept the podium in the 3,000m courtesy of Alexander Fitzgerald (8:42.99), Patrick Reilly (8:43.97) and Kyle Leonard (8:45.59).
The 4x8 relay team was also victorious with Ryan Grace, John Tolbert, Paradise and Ryan Cooney finishing in 8:06.22, over 22 seconds ahead of the Leopards' team.
In the field events, Givens took runner-up in the long jump at 6.85 meters, before coming back out and blowing past his former PR in the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.09 meters to win the event and hit an IC4A qualifying mark. In the triple jump, senior Daniel Reichenbach leapt 14.42m for the win, ahead of teammates Michael Gooding (2nd/PR of 13.98m) and Isaac (3rd/13.88m).
Lehigh maxed out its points in the pole vault, with freshman Joey Kelly winning for the fourth time this season at 4.55m, with junior Trevor Knowles also vaulting 4.55 meters and finishing second. In the shot put, senior Lucas Warning once again dominated the field with a first place, 17.70-meter heave, which is the third furthest shot put in Lehigh program history. Lastly, in the weight throw, freshman Adam Freesman set a season-best with his 13.21m toss, placing him fourth.
Lehigh will be back at Rauch Fieldhouse next Saturday, Jan. 28 to host the 25th Annual John Covert Classic. Lehigh will also have several athletes competing this Friday at the Villanova Open in Staten Island, N.Y. and the Thundering Herd Invitational in West Virginia.
