BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team is set to host the 25th annual John Covert Classic on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Rauch Fieldhouse. Lehigh will be competing against 16 other teams in the meet, including Patriot League opponents Lafayette and Loyola.
Â
The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's pole vault, men's long jump, the women's high jump and women's weight throw. The track events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 5000m run, followed by the men's 5,000m at approximately 10:55 a.m. A complete schedule of events and meet information are available by clicking here. Live results and heat sheets are also available at www.mitchelltiming.com.
Â
Lehigh is slated to have several athletes compete in two other meets this weekend, including the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia and the Villanova Open at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. This includes Ryan Givens in the high jump and long jump, Joey Kelly in the pole vault, and Trevor Knowles and Kyle Sult in the heptathlon. Several Lehigh runners will also take to the track at the Villanova Open throughout the day on Friday.
Â
The Covert Classic will be the fifth and final meet for Lehigh at Rauch Fieldhouse this season. Lehigh is coming off its fourth straight win over Lafayette last weekend, where LU won 12 of the 17 events to take home the 107-74 victory.
Â
The Lehigh men have won six weekly awards from the Patriot League so far this season, with Warning (two) and Knowles (one) each winning Field Athlete of the Week honors, and freshman pole vaulter Joey Kelly winning back-to-back Rookie of the Week awards in December. Most recently, Matt Kravitz won Rookie of the Week after his performance in the mile run in the dual meet against Lafayette on Jan. 21. The six awards won by the men, plus the six won by the Lehigh women, are the most combined awards of any school in the league this year.
