Multiple Mountain Hawks Move Up the All-Time Performance List at Widener and Boston University

PHILADELPHIA - Lehigh traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the Widener Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Mountain Hawks also sent two men to Boston, where they competed at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Widener Indoor Classic
The throwers kicked off the meet, as shot put and weight throw were the only two events on Friday. First-year Chance Stuart led the pack in both events. He opened up the meet throwing shot put, where his 13.35-meter throw landed him in 17th place. He followed that performance up in the weight throw, launching the weight 15.78 meters to place 10th.
The success in the field continued on day two, as Lehigh jumpers placed in the top six in three events. Jaden Ferguson placed highly in both the high jump and long jump. The sophomore cleared the two meter bar in the high jump for the first time indoors, placing sixth. He placed fourth in the long jump, soaring 6.95 meters. Sophomore Sayyidakbar Akbarov set a new personal record for the second weekend in a row in the pole vault. His 4.75-meter clearance moved him into seventh place on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list.
Lehigh runners each set new personal records in the 200, both reaching the top 15. Eddie Moore led the way in eighth, finishing in 22.04. The junior improved upon his fourth place mark on Lehigh's performance list. Sophomore Quinten Slaughter moved up on that list, right behind Moore in fifth. He ran 22.20, finishing in 13th.
The Mountain Hawks had four top ten finishes in the one mile run, with the top three all earning new personal bests. Senior Dan Malatesta earned bronze in the event, with his time of 4:12.47 giving him a debut of seventh on the indoor performance list. Junior Ryan Baker's and senior Max Leffler's new personal records placed them sequentially in eighth and ninth overall. Baker won his heat in 4:18.44, and Leffler's time was just behind at 4:18.73. Sophomore Ian Zalewski earned 10th place, running 4:19.29.
Junior Aidan LaTourette placed fifth overall in the 800 meter, running 1:54.58.
In the 3000 meter run, sophomore Ben Connell was Lehigh's top finisher in 14th. He ran a season's best 8:44.59.
Nick Bressi was the top Mountain Hawk finisher in the 400, placing 17th with a 50.80-second race.
The team of Bressi, LaTourette, Moore, and Peter Priestner ran 3:20.90 in the 4x400 meter relay, placing fourth.
David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Seniors Alex Heidemann and Joseph Nowakoski were the only two members of the men's track and field team who traveled to Boston. Heidemann ran the 800, winning his heat in an indoor personal best time of 1:51.50 (16th). His time gave him sole possession of the fourth place spot on Lehigh all-time indoor performance list. Nowakowski competed in the shot put, throwing 15.93 meters to land in fifth.
The Mountain Hawks head back to Philadelphia next Friday, facing off in the Philly Metro meet hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Lehigh will also travel to Bucknell on Friday for the Bucknell Tune-Up.
