Lehigh Earns Three Medals On Day One of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lehigh men's track and field concluded the first day of Patriot League Championship competition on Friday. The Mountain Hawks have 26 points after six events have gone final, putting them in third place.
Lehigh took home a trio of medals in the field. Wil Jaques was the runner-up in the javelin, throwing a season's best 65.98 meters. This was the second career javelin medal for the senior, as he won silver in 2024. The Mountain Hawks occupied two podium spots to win hardware in the long jump. Konstantinos Panagopoulos won silver in his first outdoor championships. The first-year jumped 7.55 meters, a huge 42-centimeter personal record. His mark moved him up to second on Lehigh's all-time outdoor performance list, and earned him an automatic qualifier for the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. Jaden Ferguson won bronze, jumping a personal best 7.48 meters. Ferguson leapfrogs Rusty Fulford's mark from 1980 to keep his third place spot on the performance list.
The championship kicked off with the 10,000 meter final, where Ryan Baker represented the Brown and White. The junior finished 12th, clocking in at 31:41.76. Christian Saparata placed 12th as well in the hammer throw to get the field events underway. The first-year threw 47.16 meters in his first outdoor championship. Senior Joseph Nowakowski threw 46.05 meters to start his final championship meet, placing 15th.
Ben Connell and Dan Malatesta set personal bests to run their way into the 1500 meter final on Saturday, earning non-automatic time qualifier spots. Connell shaved 6.91 seconds from his personal record to finish at 3:51.07, and Malatesta ran 3:51.85 to lower his personal record by 0.75 seconds.
Alex Heidemann qualified for the 800 meter final with a second place finish in his heat. The senior crossed the line at 1:51.08.
Nathan Oliphant took the ninth spot in the 110 meter hurdles, falling one spot short of qualifying for the finals. The junior crossed the line at 14.78. In the 400 meter hurdles, Nick Bressi was Lehigh's top runner with a 12th place finish, finishing in 55.10.
Eddie Moore and Cole Swick represented Lehigh in the 100 meter dash. Moore placed 13th with a 10.73-second race, and Swick ran a personal record 10.77 to place 14th. Swick's time makes the first-year the eighth fastest 100 meter runner in Lehigh history. Moore and Swick were also the two Mountain Hawks to compete in the 200 meter event. Swick placed 15th by running 21.77, and Moore ran a personal best 21.84 to place 17th. Moore's time ties him at ninth on Lehigh's all-time outdoor performance list.Â
Peter Priestner was Lehigh's top 400 meter runner, running 50.34 to place 17th.
Andrew Clark and Neves Hoose currently sit at seventh and eighth, respectively, in the decathlon. Clark's day one performance was highlighted by a fourth place finish in the 400 meter (51.21). Hoose's day featured a personal record in the 100 meter (11.46).
Aidan LaTourette, Mekhi Britt, Max Leffler, and Ian Zalewski ran the 4x800 meter relay to end day one. Leffler passed two teams in the final lap of the third leg to put Lehigh in fifth, which Zalewski held to cross the line at 7:37.06 to add four points to the team's total.
"The team had a solid performance on day one," said head coach Khyala Atte. "The men had some outstanding performances in the field events. Men's javelin and long jump were exciting and were perfectly timed for the end of the season. Additionally three men to the finals on the track."
Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude team competition for Lehigh this season. All Patriot League Championships sessions will be aired on ESPN+.
