Mountain Hawks Finish Four Days of Competition at Virginia Challenge and ECAC/IC4A Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va./PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Lehigh men's track and field engaged in four days of competition this weekend across two meets. The Mountain Hawks competed in the Virginia Challenge from Thursday to Saturday, and took part in the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
Virginia Challenge
Javelin initiated the competition in Virginia as the only event on Thursday, and Wil Jaques was the sole competitor for Lehigh. The senior threw a season's best 62.64 meters in the javelin throw, good enough to reach the podium in third.
Jaden Ferguson was Lehigh's only athlete in the field on Friday. He jumped a season's best 7.07 meters to place 16th in the long jump. Ferguson bettered his placement on Saturday in the high jump on Saturday. The sophomore placed eighth, clearing the 2.01-meter bar. Nic Rossi also placed well in that event. The senior jumped 1.96 meters to place 11th.
Eddie Moore placed 36th as the only Mountain Hawk in the 100 meter dash. The junior ran 10.88. Moore also competed in the 200 meter on Saturday, where he ran 22.19 to place 19th. Lehigh's best finisher in that event was Cole Swick. The first-year placed 15th, crossing the line at 22.06.
Nick Bressi placed 25th in the 400 meter hurdle event, crossing the line at 54.61.
Aidan LaTourette smashed his personal record in the 800 meter event on Saturday. The junior clocked 1:51.82 to place 13th, which was over a half of a second better than his previous best.
Daniel Givens competed in the triple jump. The senior placed 21st with a 13.97-meter leap.
Bressi, Swick, Ferguson, and Moore made up Lehigh's 10th place 4x100 meter team. The squad ran 41.75, which is the fifth fastest 4x100 meter time in team history.
The Mountain Hawks concluded the meet with a 10th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team consisting of Bressi, LaTourette, Dan Malatesta, and Alex Heidemann ran 3:28.03.
ECAC/IC4A Championships
Andrew Clark placed third in the decathlon across the two days of competition in New Jersey, scoring 6036 points. His performance was highlighted by runner-up finishes in the pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500 meter. Neves Hoose placed sixth with a personal record of 5564 points. This was a 484-point improvement on his previous best, and was off the back of personal bests in six of the ten events.
Lehigh had three athletes finish in the top 10 of the 3000 meter steeplechase on Saturday. Connor Malinger finished fifth in personal best time. The senior ran 9:20.63, a five second improvement on his personal record. Henry Burd lowered his personal record as well. The senior placed ninth, crossing the line at 9:24.97. Derek Coceano finished 10th, clocking 9:38.82.
The Mountain Hawks also had a top 10 finisher in the 5000 meter run, where Charlie Butler broke his personal record to place eighth. The sophomore ran 14:55.19, an improvement by 22.63 seconds and the first time he broke the coveted 15-minute mark.
The distance squad had a top 15 finisher in the 1500 meter as well. Isaac Greene finished in the 15th position, running 4:01.35.
There were seven top 15 placements in the field events on Saturday. Joe Nowakowski led the way with two of those in the shot put and discus throw. The senior placed 10th in the shot put with a 15.12 meter throw and threw a personal best 44.11 meters to earn 12th in the discus. Adam Klinge placed in the top 15 in that event as well. He threw 43.64 meters, which was also a personal best. Gavin Chamberlain was the highest placing Mountain Hawk in the field on the day. He slotted in at ninth in the javelin throw with a 54.57 meter heave. Aaron Lee placed 13th in the event, throwing 51.40 meters. Christian Saparata earned his 11th place finish in the hammer throw, where he tossed the weight 52.59 meters.
Konstandinos Panagopoulos placed 11th in both the long jump and triple jump across the two days of competition. The first-year jumped 7.09 meters in the long jump on Saturday and a personal record 13.90 meters in the triple jump on Sunday.
Nathan Oliphant got day two underway with a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. The junior ran 14.78. Aiden DiBuono ran 56.34 in the 400 meter hurdle event. This was a season's best for the junior, and it placed him 15th.
Will Mrozinski was Lehigh's top finisher in the 3000 meter run, as he came in fifth. The sophomore set a new personal record, finishing at 8:48.71.
Greene, Peter Priestner, Max Leffler, and Danny Walter made up Lehigh's fifth place 4x800 meter relay team. The squad ran 7:42.35.
The Mountain Hawks next compete next weekend, with a pair of significant meets. They will head down to Philadelphia to compete at the historic Penn Relays from April 23-25. Lehigh will also host the Carol & John Covert Classic on April 24-25 at the Goodman Track and Field Complex.
