Javelin Opens Outdoor Season For Lehigh at Elon

ELON, N.C.- Lehigh track and field welcomed the spring season by taking part in the Phoenix Invitational on Friday morning. The Mountain Hawks sent javelin throwers to Elon University to compete for the first time outdoors this year.
The Mountain Hawks dominated on the men's side, placing four throwers in the top five spots. Wil Jaques won the event, throwing 58.77 meters to get his senior season underway. Jack Wolf finished as the runner-up in his collegiate debut. The first-year heaved the javelin 50.87 meters. Sophomore Aaron Lee placed fourth, with his throw landing at 49.63 meters. Gavin Chamberlain sent his spear 46.68 meters, placing him fifth.
The women kicked off their season with all three throwers finishing in the top half of the field. Meghan Miller was the top performer, as she placed sixth. The sophomore launched the javelin 35.30 meters. Sophomore Peyton Lewis earned the 10th place spot in the competition, tossing the javelin 31.77 meters. Melani Dowling threw 28.89 meters in her first collegiate meet. The first-year placed 12th.
The full Lehigh team will first compete outdoors on Saturday, March 21. The Mountain Hawks will travel to Shippensburg University to compete in the Keystone State Challenge.
