Mountain Hawks Place Well at Keystone State Challenge

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks hit the track for the first time this spring at the Keystone State Classic. Shippensburg University hosted Lehigh track and field among other Pennsylvania schools to welcome in the official start to the outdoor season.Â
Lehigh owned all seven of the top spots for the 5000 meter race. Sawyer Macy ended his first outdoor collegiate race victorious. The first-year ran 15:15.11, leading the field by over 10 seconds. Juniors Noah Zahn and Dylan Cunningham rounded out the podium. Zahn finished as the runner-up at 15:25.95, and Cunningham ran a personal best time of 15:28.79 to take third. Sophomores Charlie Butler and Will Mrozinski were the next two finishers. Butler ran 15:32.07 to place fourth in his outdoor debut, and Mrozinski took fifth by running 15:37.38. First-years Jacob Nedimyer and Evan Weber closed out the Brown and White wave, with Nedimyer crossing at 15:42.41 and Weber at 15:42.90.Â
Ryan Macom and Thomas Arnold placed well in both of their opening outdoor races. Macom was the runner up in his outdoor 800 meter college debut, sneaking under the two-minute mark with a 1:59.94 finish. He also finished third in the 1500 meter run, clocking in at 4:06.51. Arnold competed in the same two events, placing eighth in the 800 and ninth in the 1500. The senior ran 2:04.72 over the half mile race, and 4:13.54 for the 1500. It was Isaac Greene who was the top Lehigh performer across 1500 meters, as the sophomore won the event in 4:03.89.
Lehigh tallied one top 10 finish in each of the two sprinting events the Mountain Hawks competed in. Cole Swick finished 10th in his outdoor college debut. He crossed the line at 22.16, the best time he has had as a Mountain Hawk. Logan Haverkamp placed ninth in the 400 meter event, with the junior running 51.06.
Lehigh's 4x400 meter squad won the event, with Haverkamp, Swick, Nick Bressi, and Austin Iburg running 3:23.04.Â
Aiden DiBuono was Lehigh's only hurdler to compete. The junior was the runner-up over 400 meters, running 57.55.
First-year Konstantinos Panagopoulos placed within the top four in both the long and triple jumps. He landed at 7.13 meters in the long jump. This was a personal best for him, and put him tied for eighth on Lehigh's all-time performance list. He took fourth in the triple jump, leaping 13.20 meters. Senior Daniel Givens ranked fifth in that event, jumping 13.17 meters.Â
Eli Johnson cleared the 4.55 meter outdoors for the first time in the pole vault. This jump earned him third.
Nic Rossi was Lehigh's top high jumper. He placed fourth, clearing the 1.95 meter bar for the first time in his career.Â
Joseph Nowakoski competed in three throwing events, reaching the top six in each of them. His best placement was in the shot put, where he came fifth with a 15.37-meter throw. He sat in sixth with the completion of the hammer throw. He launched the weight 46.84 meters, a 4.2 meter personal best. He also threw a personal best to place sixth in the discus. He flung the disk 42.39 meters, a seven meter improvement on his previous record.
All three of Lehigh's javelin throwers slotted into the top ten once the event concluded. Wil Jaques was the top placing Mountain Hawk in sixth, throwing 53.73. Aaron Lee was just next in seventh, as he threw 52.77. Jack Wolf's best throw landed 47.51 meters away, which was good for 10th
The Mountain Hawks next compete at the Monmouth Season opener on March 27-28.
